Random: Taiko minigame on Banafest Town

The Taiko Festival-themed zone of the social-networking game Banafest features this simple minigame. Pour out the water only the Don notes!

Clearer shot of Taiko 14 new version songs

Of course there would be a high-quality picture of this sooner or later! This was posted on taiko_team's Twitter. Wonder who leaked the blurry version two days ago?

Taiko no Tatsujin PSP DX screenshot collection

Yet another website update for Taiko PSP DX

Besides the hot topic of the day that is the Taiko Tournament 2011,  Taiko PSP DX's website has undergone another major update, concerning the starting list of songs. Wanna hear?

More evidence of something hidden in Taiko 14

Just revealed in the poster for the Taiko countrywide tournament for this year is a song that isn't in Taiko 14 and is completely new, coming to Taiko Portable DX. No one knows how LOVE Ikusa got into Taiko 14, or how it was hidden away so perfectly without being revealed in the secret song list. The secret list was supposed to be a perfect one uncovering all the hidden songs of Taiko 14! If LOVE Ikusa isn't in there it could only mean that it isn't on Taiko 14, and there's a brand new arcade version coming, using the name Taiko 14. But, at the same time this is for the first round of the competition, meaning Taiko 14 machines which are already in arcades will be used. How does LOVE Ikusa fit in this puzzle?

Adding fuel to the fire is this, a VIP tag from god knows where.

The text on the top says 'Increase in songs ta-don!', with a Taiko 14 logo right beneath it. Looks like five new songs. Even under heavy blur, you can make out the third song as Black Rose Apostle, the fourth as Uchuu Samurai, and the fifth as Doom Noiz, all of which made their debut on Taiko Wii 3 and are coming to arcade for the first time. The first song is impossible to make out, while the second one.....

....is that '2000' I see at the end of the title? This isn't Shimedore, nor is it Joubutsu. Is the 2000 series still alive after all?

Speculations abound. Is there a Taiko 14.5 coming, or an upgrade to the current batch of Taiko 14 machines? If so, how will it be done seeing as every secret has already been wrung out of the arcade some way or other?

Taiko no Tatsujin Japan tournament 2011

If anyone still remembers, there was a grand Taiko competition last year organized by NBGI and it was met with roaring success. The competition took place across all the major cities of Japan at certain dates using pre-determined songs, then an area challenge, and then the grand finals on top of a stage.

And it's returning for a second round this year, using Taiko 14 instead of Taiko 13! The Taiko no Tatsujin Donder Japan Number One Decisive Battle 2011 (太鼓の達人ドンだー!日本一決定戦2011) ! Based on this poster here it looks like the rulesets remain the same, just score as highly as possible on the songs shown to make it to the next round. Schedules should be up on the tourney website by tomorrow when it opens officially (the URL to the site is at the bottom of the poster, but for easy linking, here you go~)

The five songs for the first leg of the competition are Shunyuu~happy excursion~ on Shinta Mode, Uchuu Samurai, LOVE Sen!!, NECOLOGY and DON'T CUT regular.

....Hold on, LOVE Sen? That's not in Taiko 14, it's supposed to be launched on Taiko Portable DX! Don't tell me it's yet another hidden song in the machine no one ever knew about, or probably Namco are using this competition as a front to launch the speculated Taiko 14 Zoryoban. This is exciting...We'll see what information the blog can provide us with by tomorrow then.

Twitter Snippets (27 June) - Wanya World

And Namco does it twice. For the joy of Vocaloid fans, the incoming Namco Original Wanya World for Taiko PSP DX (as confirmed yesterday), will be sung by two synthetic voices, Kagamine Rin and Len, the twin Vocaloids whose voices are originally provided by Japanese singer Shimoda Asami.

A short extract of the song is also available to download as a phone ringtune, and someone managed to upload it in the NicoNicoVideo website. Click here to listen the preview!

This is odd though- the nine Namco Originals we saw yesterday were not supposed to be officially confirmed yet, but I'm guessing people are pestering the Taiko Team about it already on Twitter so they probably had no choice.

Taiko PSP DX Namco Originals leaked!

Remember that bunch of Namco Originals that were supposed to be reserved till next month? Some guy got a leaked boxshot of the back of the game and holy cow, look at all the new songs! A few of them are continuations of well loved series too! Thanks to Lokamp for the find (from Wikihouse).

From the top:

DokoDON MatsuRhythm (that's the theme song)
Canadea
SORA-V Cosmic Bird (oh yeaaaahhhh)
Wanya World (Dog and cat song)
All Night de Indenai (finally, a new 'de' series song. Wonder what 'Indenai' is? Anyone?)
Magical Little Spaceship (cut off. Hoping for a cute song)
Shiro Neko Caramel Mugen no Wataame (... cats? Caramel? Cotton candies?)
White Rose Insanity (yep, we know this one)
Ao no Senritsu (wonder what this is?)
Inu Hoeru (another dog song)
LOVE Sen!! (sounds like a J-Pop song, this)

Lots of animal-themed songs this time. A lot of the new songs sound really generic- there's still the possibility it might be a hoax, but we'll wait for official confirmation or for the game to come out, whichever comes first. No word on Shimedore or Joubutsu being in the game yet, but we'll know soon enough! 19 days more!

Twitter Snippets (23 June): Nagisa no Andromeda

Since the short news spread by the Taiko Team on Twitter are developing an ever growing popularity, we'll start posting some of their short messages. The first one we are going to see concerns Nagisa no Andromeda, one of the two starting Namco Original songs downloadable on the Playstation Store:

【PSP】太鼓の達人ぽ~たぶるDXの7月DL配信曲「渚のアンドロメダ」は、フレネシさんというアーティストに楽曲提供していただきました!譜面も曲を堪能できるように作りこみましたので、めくるめくフレネシワールドをお楽しみに!

According to the extract, it will be sung by Frenesi (フレネシ), a popular Japanese musician! His space-themed discography has already gained much respectin the country; surely it's good enough to guarantee a good song for Namco's rhythm family?

Brawl among the 7 islands! Taiko DS 2 Boss Battles

Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS is the pioneer game in the Taiko series for boss battles based on hitting notes and avoiding obstacles along the way, and though it is simplistic, it paved the way for slightly more complex rhythm battle systems with more mechanics like the ones seen in Taiko DS3 and Taiko Wii 2. In the story mode, Don-chan is sucked into a vortex and lands himself on the distant seven islands, where he is tasked with becoming the master of the Taiko Dojos on each of them. Along the way there are stages like multiplayer duels with computer AI and challenges like getting a certain score on a song (a much better way to present them unlike in DS1, where the challenges were sent through letters which could be easily ignored)

Taiko 10th Anniversary 3rd big news!

Well that was fast. End the suspense and find out what it is!

PaPaPa Love confirmed for Taiko PSP DX

Here's a snap from the Taiko PSP DX trailer, about Medley mode. If you look closely on the right (time 0.45 in the video) it's possible to briefly see the first Muscle March song: now PaPaPa Love is officially confirmed for the starting tracklist!

Since the songs are displayed by genre on this screen, we can assume that even PaPaPa Love has moved into the Game Song genre, as happened for the most recent Make Inu Henjou. Also curious to see that Mujihi na Ou, the God Eater Burst song, will have a 6* Futsuu mode; the suspects of a 10* Oni are becoming brighter and brighter...
