Twitter Snippets (September 16 2015) - Calling the End for PSP DX [Updated Sept 17]

A whopping four years after its first release and three other handheld console games in between, Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX is finally called to a full end, as all downloadable content, including re-downloads of already purchased elements, will stop being available after September 30, 2015. This is a genuine last call to grab whatever you want from the game before that date.

Update (September 17 2015): Taiko Portable and Portable 2 are NOT closing DLC together with DX for now, but if and when it does in the future there will be due notice before-hand.

Taiko PSP's IDs, take 16

This week's sudden pack of songs for the PSP DX game comes with another load of hidden IDs, probably from the next future packs. Four IDs have been identified, with a fifth completely new one!

Momoiro Clover's Saraba, Itoshiki Kanashimi-tachi Yo (ID: m96srb) and AKB48's Manatsu no Sounds Good (ID: akbsg) are for the J-Pop genre, while the Anime one has the freshly-released LET'S GO OUT (ID: lets5o) and Totsugeki Rock (ID: tg69). There is also an additional ID, dmgene, which doesn't belong to any song currently released for Taiko. According to a guess from Wikihouse, the ID could belong to Dance My Generation, another Golden Bomber song after Memeshikute (which actually made into the PSP game just with this Spring DLC pack!)

Namco Taiko Blog (21 March 2013): Spring Season Pack for Taiko PSP DX

Though no longer monthly, Namco still have not given up on Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX, and announced five songs for it today in conjunction with the spring equinox! (the official beginning of the spring season)

From today to May 6th 2013, players of Taiko PSP DX will be able to download these five songs for free! Yes, free!!
  • Memeshikute (女々しくて)
  • Kimi o Nosete (君をのせて)
  • Atarimae Taisou (あたりまえ体操)
  • Matryoshka (マトリョシカ)
  • Jinsei Reset Button (人生リセットボタン)
Three songs from Taiko Wii 5 and two more from the brand-new Taiko 0 Sorairo! It's a bumper crop season for PSP owners!

Matryoshka doesn't come with its Ura difficulty (probably because it doesn't have a full difficulty set) so the only way to play its Ura is still either on Taiko Wii 5 or Sorairo. This song and Jinsei Reset Button will be in Variety because the Vocaloid genre doesn't exist for this game.

Memeshikute also comes with its own special dancers, featuring Don-chan and the members of the band!

So do Matryoshka and Jinsei Reset Button!

To top off the deal, two new DLC costumes will be made available for Taiko PSP DX, the first DLC costumes to be distributed since the Lawson outfit from before the game launched.

Download Memeshikute and you get an outfit of Don-chan wearing a mask.

Download either Matryoshka or Jinsei Reset Button and you get the GUMI costume!

You have two months to get your freebies so get cracking! All songs will be priced at the usual 150 Yen each after this promotional period.

Shimedore 2000+ first HQ video

Happy end of the world! To end it properly we must have a perfect ending song, and Taiko's perfect ending song has always been Shimedore 2000, the 'end' of the first phase of 2000 series songs. And it has landed on Taiko PSP DX yesterday as part of the last DLC pack.

So, what's different in Shimedore 2000+? It's not the soundtrack version; it has a slightly extended ending after Kidaruma 2000 like for the "Donderful!" version, adding a 'ze' sound at the back of 'kyou no fuku wa kiiro' instead of ending abruptly there like usual. The main difference is that the censor sound in Ekiben at the short drumroll is also gone, but what replaces it....well it's difficult to hear it properly. Wanya World on PSP DX similarly also has the censor sound removed but you can hear it perfectly on the soundtrack CD, arcade and Taiko Wii 4.

So basically it's the same as regular Shimedore 2000, with 1414 notes.

Feature: Taiko PSP DX's missing DLC songs

December 2012 is officially the last month of the monthly DLC distribution of new songs for the third PSP Taiko game, Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX.

Since the first pack's release, players have been able to get a sneak peek at songs that would be released later in a few months time simply by checking out hidden SongIDs in the .edat files provided with the DLC songs with hex editing programs. Even the Taiko Time blog joined this "cybernetic expedition" month after month, resulting in the discovery of a large number of SongID of pre-existing songs (or even brand new ones) which were officially released right after the next 1-2 months on average.

The end of the monthly DLC was predicted by a few factors, such as the lack of hidden songIDs in the last few months being a sign of the tap running dry and the lack of brand-new Namco Original songs other than the CreoFUGA winners, as opposed to last year when there was literally at least one new song introduced to the version every month.

Some of the hidden ID songs never managed to get an official release and still lie inside the DLC data as simple IDs. Below there is a complete list of songs that were originally planned for PSP users but then dumped, together with their CENTER number (indicating their original release order of the songs) and the months of their 'unofficial discovery' beneath the ID data.

Namco Taiko Blog (13 December 2012) - Taiko PSP DX December 2012 download pack

Today's Taiko Team blog entry is about December 2012's new songs for Taiko PSP DX's download service, the last one for 2012 and, sadly, the last monthly download pack for this game since it came out, one year and five months ago.

We'll discuss this point later on, but for now keep reading and see what downloadable goodies there are this time!

Namco Taiko Blog (6 December 2012) - CreoFUGA interviews final part

One week after the release of the PSP DX download pack for November, the final set of interviews for the CreoFUGA winners are finally here! Introducing the seventh and eighth winners:

Mihile, who made the Namco original song 3piece-Jazz Party
Joe Kiyoshi, who made the Rage Racer remix song RAGE v.self

Mihile has been waiting in anticipation for his song to be in Taiko for a long time; well he finally gets to see 3piece-Jazz Party come out. Of course he's happy to see it! Joe feels that there are lots of professional sound designers in the list of winners and in the entire participants list. Over the past half a year after the contest ended he's felt that his skills in making music has improved, it feels like one of the great crossroads and a turning point in life. He hopes that all players will have fun playing his song.

The inspiration for Mihile's song was a jazz piano CD, which led her to make a 3-piece instrumental with jazz. Mihile thinks anyone could have made 3piece-Jazz Party, as he mentions composing it in his free time, and had to correct many errors on piano keys while making it. Joe loves the Rage Racer music and composed this remix with "a desire to win" as its theme. He faced quite a few difficulties making the song, the most work being spent on timing his guitar and vocals for it.

Mihile loves game music, and even listens to Taiko songs. He likes 'Etude Op.10-4' and 'Sports Digestdon' in particular. Joe on the other hand is a universal listener and likes rock songs. He's been listening to '30 seconds to mars', an American band. Not bad!

You can find Mihile at his website, while Joe provided his Facebook account.

Mihile's message to donders: He is a huge music game fan, and to play a song of his own making in one is a dream, though he can't DFC anything, he is satisfied enough to FC most Oni level songs. He wants donders to challenge his song! Though he has a request to Etou not to make it too difficult (well we all know how Etou makes insane charts)
Joe's message to donders: If you like cool rock songs with a high tempo, Rage v.self is for you!

The interview is followed by a brief explanation of what Rage Racer is; a spinoff of Ridge Racer made in 1996 for the PlayStation.

And that's a wrap for the eight winners of the CreoFUGA PSP DX music composing content. Enjoy the eight songs, and keep on Taikoing!

Namco Taiko Blog (1 November 2012)- CreoFUGA interviews part 3

The third lot of CreoFUGA user-created songs were made downloadable on Taiko PSP DX from October 25th, 2012 onwards and Namco interviewed the 5th and 6th winners today!

The two people here today are Harunaba, the creator of Hanaoto Urahyoushi, and Ryuwitty, who made Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi. Both creators feel extremely happy and proud that their creations can be played by everyone on Taiko no Tatsujin.

Harunaba's song...Hanaoto is a Japanese-style song, composed with Taiko no Tatsujin in mind and tries to evoke the beauty of old Japan. Ryuwitty has an 'ethnic, exotic' image in mind when he made his song, and as mentioned before, during the contest the title of the song was completely different (昔むかし、遠き国の王様は) and he wanted lyrics for it. Later he deleted the lyrics.

Both composers found syncing the music for use in a rhythm game to be quite difficult. Getting the rhythm right is definitely a hard thing to do!

Harunaba listens to lots of music, but two bands in particular (Spitz, a J-Pop group and Meshuggah, a Swedish death metal group) stand out. Ryuwitty is a fan of classical music, especially Ravel and Debussy. You can follow both on Twitter, where they talk about daily life, food and music. The last paragraph is their message to Taiko players, to have lots of fun playing their songs.

There was another contest for composing GUMI songs on CreoFUGA, and both of these two have also won that contest, making for a double-sweep! Epic stuff! It's an even greater achievement when you consider than only four finalists were picked from there, as compared to eight here.

Now, for the last two winners! Hope we get to see their songs soon!

Taiko PSP's IDs, take 15

By a closer look to October 2012's packs, another new song emerges from the future releases! It's the J-Pop song Shine (ID: shine), by Ieiri Leo. For the record, said song comes from the latest arcade's first upgrades.

Hanaoto Urahyoushi and Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi first videos

And now that the download pack is out, let's see some videos! Above is Hanaoto Urahyoushi. It's an average speed 9* with 700 notes (quite a long song) and some simple streams. Namco said earlier that a Vocaloid is the voice of this song, and it is now confirmed to be Kagamine Rin, the female voice of the yellow-haired twin Vocaloids.

And this is Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi. It's easier than Hanaoto at 8* Oni with 624 notes, and somewhat faster-paced. A very lovely song with very lovely note patterns!

Taiko PSP DX's IDs, take 14

After last month's disappointing pack which had no new song IDs, we have one this month. The ID highlighted above, otemo, belongs to Otemoyan, the mambo remix of a traditional Japanese nursery song and one of the latest Variety songs introduced by the latest arcade's July 2012 update.

Namco Taiko Blog 2 (26 July 2012) - CreoFuga interviews, part 1

This post is an interview with the first two winners of the CreoFUGA music making contest: DUNKEL who composed DIMENSIONS, and MOES who composed Dokidoki Kyun Omatsuri Time.

Taiko PSP DX's IDs, take 12

For celebrating one year of downloadable content for the third PSP videogame, this month's hidden IDs are A LOT MORE than usual! Seriously, it's like grouping four or five months of hidden songIDs all in a row, and there's a lot of songs both old and new!
