Namco Taiko Blog (June 2nd, 2025) / Livestream Recap: 2025/06/01 Taiko no Tatsujin Official Livestream / News-Flash Chirping Crumbles on Nijiiro's Next Update (2025/06/02)

...these livestream recap titles of ours sure are getting as stacked as a Jenga tower, are they?!

Until it crumbles, at least, we're once again here to regale you of what happened in yesterday's livestream, with the slides/recap shared today on today's official blog entry, a few extra shots on our side for anything else left uncovered there and an update shared via X right as I was in the middle of writing this very post. Let's just jump into it!

Chirping Crumbles (May 25th, 2025) - WADIVERSE Episode 5 Reveal and Release Timetable

Episode 5 of WADIVE RECORD's side project is about to start soon! Under the premise of an adventure based on Kat-chan (who got separated from his sibling for some reason), this WADIVERSE iteration will kicks things off tomorrow with the first of its 4-parter online manga release, to be followed later with character art and the titular MV's release on June 4th, with its song becoming playable in currently-active Taiko games from the day later.

June 5th also happens to be the Nintendo Switch 2's launch day as well, a factoid that makes us want to remember how we keep a tab on the system's retrocompatibility issues web page, from Nintendo's Japanese website. Since we've looked at it last time, we've got about a dozen less games showing off startup issues (122 games still with issues, as of today) but alas, Donderful/Rhythm Festival still appears to be in the no-no zone. Let's see if things will change on that front, moving on...

Chirping Crumbles (April 22nd, 2025) - Cosmic Radio 2025 Involvment Confirmed for TnT

Say, remember this short bit right at the end of the most-recent livestream? Turns out it actually was a tease for the returning partnership endeavors on this year's edition of the Cosmic Radio music contest! Unlike with the 2024 edition where Taiko's involvment was only revealed a few days prior to the overal winners' reveal, this year it happens a few days before song submissions for the event in question can be accepted (April 25th).

In comparison from from last year, on the collaborating-parties side we got one dropped music game's involvment (Rhythm Doctor) and the addition of three more on its stead: X.D. Network's Rotaeno, the upcoming Yunyun Syndrome Internet Psychosis from the Needy Streamer Overload developers and lowiro's Arcaea. These too, alongside the 8 returning music game franchises, will be able to pick one or more songs for licensing rights into their respective games, once the 2025 contest's "regular" winners have been decided!

Chirping Crumbles (March 16th, 2025) - Blue-chiming Academy Antics at the WADIVERSE

This Sunday update from the taiko_all Twitter handle brings us an official reveal to the upcoming development of the WADIVERSE project that started last year, with Chapter 4 spanning throughout the next couple of weeks in many a media facet. The theme, this time around, is the fabled Aoharu no Tatsujin academy that was quite the riot on April Fools grounds circa 2023!

We're also going to get a brand-new playable song in two Fridays from now, with its MV releasing the day prior! My gut feeling is that we're about to hear more Hige Driver in Taiko after many years since the 8-bit port of his Tokyo Soda, considering the peculiar grounds on which I could make such an educated guess...

For this occasion, the usual pre-livestream poll will be different fron the usual arcade-oriented inquiries! Chirping Crumbles (January 1st, 2025) - New-Year Farewells from steμ

...yep, we're retiring the "Twitter Snippets" naming brand for the world of instant SNS findings! After all, we got more than a tentative social media website to scout these kinds of news from (Mastodon and BlueSky, mainly) and chances are it would have let the title degrade itself into "Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx", at some point. Now, where was I...

Right at the turn of a new year, we're hit with the departure news from Bandai Namco of another renowned BNSI inhouse composer, one that has been behind several Namco Originals and a few of the modern original music contests as a judge.

Yu Sugimoto, better known under the steμ alias, has left Bandai Namco during last month's end, publicly announcing the news with the opening of a proprietary X account at this year's start. The Taiko Drum Monster-famed artist has not quit the music-making scene altogether, but he's taking 5 sabbatical months in order to recover his strengths for his future endeavors.

[ACN] - A Slithering New Year at Taiko's

The latest Year of the Snake has been kickstarted with a handful of new content pertaining the Taiko no Tatsujin series, the first of which being the customary January 1st Namco Original following the same trend. Until this month's First Video Portal is out, enjoy the latest original composition from Daisuke Kurosawa above these very lines!

After the jump are a couple of Taiko-related contents releasing quite soon, in conjuntion with a TV-broadcast New Year special airing a few hours from now.

Twxttxr Snxppxts (December 13th, 2024) - 2024's Final Polling Round for Upcoming Songs

Often times across the Nijiiro Version firmware line's tenure, game center-affine Donders were polled by the Taiko Team via anonymous questionairs as a reference for eventual future song inclusions. We've got another of these online, but this time around everyone's invited to vote!

From today until December 27th, you can hop onto one of the following language-affine Quesant forms to write down the name of one/more song/s per genre you'd like to see on Nijiiro Version arcades in the future! As usual, these questionairs are made just as a way to gauge a "general-idea" reference pool and as such, votes are not binding to the final outcomes nor they'll be subject to public reveals of sorts.

Below are all the relevant Quesant poll links, with the latter three taken from an entry from the official General Asia ver. Facebook page:

Twxttxr Snxppxts (October 27th, 2024) - WADIVERSE Episode 3's Release Schedule

It took almost half a year since the last incursion of the WADIVE RECORDS-inspired side project, but it's back at last! The SNS-shared sidestories of Taiko no Tatsujin characters into parallel realities continues with this turn-of-a-month, with the third episode of the WADIVERSE series' schedule setting up content from today up until November 7th next month. This episode's comic-structured story is set in the "Picopico Arcade" (ピコピコアーケード), with the first part being released today alongside the character description of its starring heroines: human-gamer versions of Ms. Cat and Ladle!

Like for the two WADIVERSE episodes before it, the story's climax will be brought home with a dedicated music video, with original music soon to be distributed across the active Taiko titles of the time the day after (again, on November 7th). No specific titles mentioned, but given the precedents we can assume that both Nijiiro Version and Donderful/Rhythm Festival's Taiko Music Pass are bound to get it!

Twxttxr Snxppxts (August 27th, 2024) - The Outer-Space Collaboration Reveal from the Final Stretch

The presence of the Taiko franchise in the greater gaming landscape doesn't stop ar the multi-platform release reveal of Rhythm Festival, as word has just spread out of the franchise joining some more contest-mased music gaming action right as its end results are about to wind up: the 2024 edition of the Cosmic Radio. I swear to whatever deity our reading audience is revering the most that I have NOT planned my writing in any shape of form by briefly touching on it as part of the latest SotW piece, but seeing as Taiko no Tatsujin is now revealed to be a participating member of this project, we might as well fully commit to this and talk what's about this in a nutshell!

In short, this was the second in a music-game-aimed song contests line started by PeroPeroGames (of Muse Dash fame), calling its participants to produce an original song of theirs and share it online via the most popular video-sharing websites, always with a dedicated hashtags to be easily grouped together. Eligible submissions were gathered earlier this year from February 29th to April 29th, with the (soon-to-be-revealed) winners not only being awarded a number of physical goodies, but even being given the chance to have their song be featured in one (or more) of the participating otoge game-developing partners if found fitting to their respective game setting, regardless of being awarded any of the physical awards on display or not. Bandai Namco is the latest partner to join the ranks with Taiko no Tatsujin, enjoying on the project the unique company of... well, these companies to boot:
  • PeroPeroGames (Muse Dash)
  • Pigeon Games (Phigros; Rizline)
  • Rayark Games (Cytus series; Deemo series; VOEZ)
  • 7th Beat Games (Rhythm Doctor; A Dance of Fire and Ice)
Contest entries were uploaded on either bilibili or YouTube, with the latter platform's entries all having the #CosmicRadio2024 tag and the allegiance to the contest on their title, so you know what to look for if you want to dig in across contestant entries! The songs to be adopted inside the participating rhythm gaming families will all be revealed in a dedicated "Results Announcement Special Program" livestream, to go live on date and applicable platforms yet to be revealed. More information about the Cosmic Radio's 2024 run can be found on its dedicated website as well.

As you can read by the reveal tweet, some input from the now-joining Taiko Team's franchise was also fished for, to which its lead Etou gladly engaged with...

...well, let's make of this what you will, I suppose...

Twxtter Snxppets (May 22nd, 2024) - E-Taiko-Sports, It's In The Drum

For another catch-up post on everyone's favorite, newly-gatekept-by-login-authentication social media platform, yesterday was also the public reveal of the online platform that is designed to gather all Elementary-And-Under Taiko tournaments of the future: the Taiko no Tatsujin eSports page!

This one too was already touched upon on our own blue-bird-donning social profile, but it's good custom to pay an extra bit of lip service due to the page in of itself teasing an update this coming July, possible for another Taiko tournament aimed at the younger Donders enjoying the latest Nintendo Switch game. Until then, we already got the page's main body up and running, at least!

Twxtter Snxppets (May 12th-21st, 2024) - (Belated) WADIVERSE Postcards from the Tamburo Kingdom

We've followed up this story more closely on our Twitter/X social feed across this timespan, but it bears mentioning it now as well, considering how the latest short-manga in the Wadiverse project has been fully delivered online! Starting from this past May 12th, a new story was shared in the fantasy-themed Tamburo Kingdom, the pages (and character profiles) of each being delivered on the @taiko_All handle and following the timetable above these very lines.

Just two days ago, this chapter's dedicated music video was also released with its key original song: who are you? who are you?, starring Vocaloid producer Shota "kemu" Horie in his very first non-Vocaloid Namco Original creation!

Just like Kusou Daha from the first Wadiverse story, this here song will make its playable debut on all operative Taiko games by this month's end (Nijiiro Version, Donderful/Rhythm Festival and RHYTHM CONNECT), each getting a simultaneous May 30th release.

Twxtter Snxppets (March 12th, 2024) - WArning into a Cross-reality Taiko DIVE

Roughly a year since the debut of the side inhouse-label of WADIVE RECORD with the Taiko no Tatsujin web Anime's Omiko Sisters duo song (more on that here!), a different kind of project is in store for this branch to expand in its own way, with the introduction of the WADIVERSE.

In short, starting from the concept of "Taiko no Tatsujin from another world", an undefined number of stories will be told with familiar Taiko characters from would-be alternate realities. Such is the case of Hana here, joining Don-Chan in quite the different looker for an upcoming adventure inside a mysterious-looking place called Band Noise Town.

This story will be told all throughout the month of March via the official @taiko_All handle on Twxtter, both in visual and musical form! The highlights for Episode 1's timetable shown up here are five update days for the actual story's manga panels (the first of which is already online!), four days devoted to character illustrations, another four for character descriptions and a couple of music-powered appointments: one for Episode 1's proper music video and another for said MV's newcoming song to become playable across all active Taiko titles!

Keeping a bookmark on that handle will surely be handy in order to get steady updates on how the story will unfold, alongside whatever's coming up in the aftermath...

Twxtter Snxppets (December 1st, 2023) - Rise of the Fourth Gen's 4th Contest Winners

The title says it all: the winners of the third Nippon Columbia-endorsed Taiko no Tatsujin contest are starting to get released as weekend warriors! Bear in mind that from 2/3 out of the nine winners (full list available in this previous Taiko no Tatsujin livestream recap) will be tournament songs for next year's arcade focused composition and as such, chances are these will be made playable there first, instead of being a Saturday-debuting tune like many in the past.

Opening the dances is the winning pick from a Diverse System label-affiliated composer, coming out tomorrow (December 2nd). Stay tuned for the other winners!

Twitter Snippets (March 31st-April 1st, 2023) - Aoharu no Tatsujin: Enroll Now!

Once you're done with our latest Song of the Week (and assuming it didn't affect your eyesight), one adviceable course of action for QR-reader-geared arcade players is to take advantage of a peculiar limited mode, being released for three whole months and... roughly 700-or-so years in advance! Let me explain...

Twitter Snippets (January 16th, 2023) - A Blast From the Tenkaichi Past

One of the highlights of the third Taiko gaming generation was the franchise's involvment in the then-labeled Arcade Operator Unit's Tenkaichi Otogesai tournaments, gathering players to compete in multiple rhythm games with plenty of shared tracks between each series from old to tailor-made for these events. Sadly, this series is now a thing of the past, but that apparently didn't stop its discontinued Twitter handle to deliver this one tweet, today...

In what we could call a Synchronica Twitter handle moment, the Tenkaichi Otogesai account has shared from beyond the competition grave that a dedicated YouTube channel for the former editions of the event has been opened, with the full uploads of the finals held at JAEPO for each of its 5 different iterations. Feel free to hop along and bask at an event that only the attenders of the time could witness firsthand!

You can check out the just-opened YT channel with this link.

Twitter Snippets (October 3rd-12th, 2022) - Groovy Ghettos and Shining (Middle-school) Suns

A double-whammy of tweets we've also reported on our own Twitter account, one from last week and another one from today!

Starting up on (limited) arcade shores, we took quite a while to get on this bit of news here because we've had to withdraw our copyright registration claims on the 'obligatory yearly ancient meme 2hu song for Autumn Reitaisai' expression, as it turns out to be unaccurate for 2022- have a more recent meme tune instead! The same song and dance from past years will unfold: limited debut at this year's Autumn Reitaisai (October 23rd) and publicly playable on arcade Taikos from the start of the next (date unannaounced as of yet) Taiko x Touhou campaign.

In more current news, while Taiko no Tatsujin has long since done away with named version changes for the arcade front, Sega's CHUNITHM still takes that approach with the latest installment (CHUNITHM SUN) releasing tomorrow (2022/10/13). So what say you about celebrating this release with a cross-inclusion between the two franchises?

Twitter Snippets (September 30th, 2022) - Alice Schach Through The Drumrolling Glass

In the hopes that your knowledge of the Alician language hasn't become too rusty since we last talked about it, a brand new song from Alice Schach and the Magic Orchestra is bound to reach Nijiiro arcades from tomorrow, one whose YouTube premiere via the video below these lines happened exactly one hour ago, as of this post's original writing!
