We've had our share of public domain songs in all these years, but thanks to a really fortunate cover from 2016, we've got on our hands another of the most viral songs out there!
Hailing from Germany with no pinpointed creator/s to credit its making for, Baby Shark is one of many children's songs with its own choreographed dance. Despite being a song in the public domain territory, individuals and commercial parties are still able to make trademarked proprietary content starring the song in a personal interpretation of the rhyme and the dance, and one of these parties managed to strike gold like no one else: South Korean entertainment company Pinkfong, with their take on Baby Shark officially becoming YouTube's most watched video on November 2020, with more than 9 billion views and counting! Pinkfong's success was capitalized in many a way, from the production of a live musical to the TV series Baby Shark's Big Show! making it worldwide, on top of brand collaborations with the likes of Kellogg's and Ubisoft (Just Dance 2020). One of those deals in particular got a big storm, alright, but not exactly for something to be fondly remembered of for many...
Bushiroad's mobile gacha music game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! has been made available all over the world for quite a while, with one of its greatest hurdles being the release of certain licensed tracks. In order to compensate for those songs who could not make it to the Global version of the game, the Bandori developers have asked in a survey which other popular properties would make it as a "consolation exclusive" to make playable. Suggestions from serious to meme-tier-valued were all set up for voting and, to the disdain of the playerbase en large, one of those more joke-tier propositions actually made it to become one of the most voted options, ultimately lending to Pinkfong and KizCastle's Baby Shark itself becoming playable in the game as one of the Global-exclusive collabs.
The Taiko cut of the song, however, seems to be based on another cover version of the popular campfire tune, most likely the cover by Johnly Only for the slight speed shift halfaway in the tune. It still is one of the hardest 4-star Onis you can find to date, with all these note couples to mind alongside the aforementioned speed shift!
