holtmp (Hololive Template)Right at the proverbial 11th hour, here we are with digital-avatar content creator, many years ago from our first look at the phenomenon. This time around, however, we've cot an entity at our hands which is simply bigger than just one popular name!
The year was 2016, a June like many with the higlight for Motoaki 'Yagoo' Tanigo (谷郷元昭) being the foundation of his own VR-graphics-enhanced company by the name of Cover Corporation (カバー株式会社). With a past of character developing for other video games (particularly with Sanrio IPs), the mission of Tanigo's newborn company was the foundation of a 'virtual idol agency' through and through, via Cover's proprietary software line allowing for real-time motion capture being incorporated into 2-way livestreams, with the 'idols' being an array of people behind the facet of an Anime-styled character like Kizuna AI and other independent content creators of the sort. The project stretched into a bonafide multi-media conglomerate, all grouped nowadays under the Hololive Production banner and ranging in all sorts of different fields, from Lets Play streaming to music production and related coreography apparels, currently nurturing over 50 different talents under their wings, spanning from different parts in the world as well as both female and male entertainers to boot.
Present-day Hololive was built upon an initial wave of Cover Corporation deals concerning both collaboration deals for exposure (most importantly Bilibili and its related partner videogames) and pre-existing talent absorptions, something in which falls our digital performer for this really recent song: the formerly-indipendent VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei (星街すいせい). Online since March 2018 with her own YouTube channel, she approached Cover's virtual idol network via the Hololive-property music label INoNaKa Music, for which she started publishing her songs in 2019 after her first indie label S:gnal, with Suisei herself joining Hololive''s roster proper by the end of the same year. She still makes music with external composers from time to time, with one of those involving none other than ex-NAMCO SOUNDS composer Taku Inoue!
TEMPLATE (in full caps on Taiko fields) is Suisei Hoshimachi's latest single (the 4th Extended Play overall), released the following day this past April 1st together with another track performed alongside the Hololive-colleague-of-another-branch Mori Calliope. Donders have actually garnered the privilege of playing this song for free, a few hours ahead of its official sold premiere alongside another Hololive network song joining the Gakkyoku Tori Houdai paid subscription model for the same smartphone-friendly app. Definitely not for the faint of heart, this is more reminiscent of an easier Feed A Oni trial than your average note-light Pops pick!
