Taiko no Tatsujin Fools in April 2022 Edition

As is tradition for Taiko no Tatsujin (and most other arcade rhythm games in general), April 1st is a day when joke content gets published onto our favorite game which may or may not be real. Last year was the realest of the real; a collaboration with LeaF for a brand new Namco Original, Ka (彁)!

This year the production value has been dialed back so there's no brand new song, but there is an easy way to still give players something new to chew on of course...give 彁 an Ura chart! With a second QR code to scan on the Nijiiro cab, players unlock access to a chart that is easily among the hardest that the official team has ever put out.

The QR code is in this tweet, and it can be used globally (so Asian donders won't miss out on it) with no expiration date.

And a video of the chart (not being played)

As of this writing, not a single player has Full Comboed this Ura chart on recording. Difficult speedy note streams, difficult and multi-layered rhythm, and on top of that, the scroll gimmick pioneered by Donkama, applied across almost the entire chart. Who was it that said the regular Oni was undercharted last year? Be careful what you wished for!

The chaotic beat signature shift and scrolling speed now truly matches the chaotic, glitchy nature of the original song. Even the little special effect when you switch from regular to Ura Oni on the song select screen is glitchy! Really committing to the theme here and a very good job. Now it's time for the players to get stressed out on it.

Oh but that's not all the April Fools news for Taiko this year. The trio of our old fools friends, Nesin Amatias, Yokuderu 15300 and Kidaruma 2000 are also playable starting today, and will remain playable throughout the entire month of April, meaning players who usually are unable to go to the arcade on April 1st for a myriad of reasons will still have ample chance to try them out.

Have a fun fools day!
