The wait for greater-Asian Donders is over: the 4th-generation firmware of the Taiko no Tatsujin arcade (nicknamed Nijiiro ver.) is now officially dated for release on April 6 2021 (subject to individual operators). Being a hefty update in its own right, the announcement has to come in six separate posts on the official Taiko no Tatsujin Asia ver. Facebook fan page.
The Asia version of Nijiiro ver. will get all the infrastructural upgrades that come with the Japanese version, including the 120fps display, QR code reader, Donderful Combo/rainbow crowns, score ranks, general results panel and new modifier options. We are not going to repeat in detail here, given all the coverage we did on the Japanese version for the past year.
What is not changed across the generations is the unfortunate fact that some of the tracks (mostly licensed songs) are still exclusive to the Japanese version and absent in greater Asia. While some of the previously exclusive tracks have been saved from Japan-exclusivity with this update (see tracklist after the jump), there are still some that missed the train (like Sword Battlers, Splatoon 2 Medley and the recent Theme of Naoki Hanzawa). Bandai Namco has decided to draw the line on backwards inclusion by the following principles:
- Reward items that are not obtainable and/or usable in the Asia version at the point of this update will NOT be obtainable in the Asia version even in the future
- Tracks that are not playable in the Asia version at the point of this update will NOT be playable in the Asia version even in the future
- However, Nijiiro ver. Don Medal Shop unlockables are exceptions to the above (see tracklist after the jump)
The most important shift that greater-Asian Donders should bear in mind is the unification of the technically separate Gen-3 arcade games into one singular, worldwide Gen-4 game. The transfer of Donder profiles from Gen-3 (Asia) to Gen-4 will cover gameplay data only up to April 5 2021. If you have used the same Banapassport card to play on both the Japanese and Asian version, we are once again reminding to take note of how Bandai Namco will decide which of the two profiles to be kept. Note that any plays done on an Asian Gen-3 cabinet (i.e. Green or earlier) on or after April 6 will NOT be recorded to your Gen-4 profile.
The transfer also means that greater-Asian Donders that are Banapassport holders (without a Japanese version profile) will be able to use the Donder Hiroba at long last. After registering your Banapassport card with a Bandai Namco ID, Donders can:
- access gameplay performance records including scores and crowns obtained
- change customization options including player name, title/title parts and colors and outfit of your personal Don-chan
- engage in social functions like worldwide rankings, tournaments and challenge gauntlet invitations
