Song of the Week! 24 April 2021

Together with the Taiko Team, we're going back in time over the course of the following months, by spotlighting the Taiko de Time Travel Weekend Warriors as they're getting introduced.

In the event we're greeted with song series-belonging picks, these will be covered in the respective Showcase corner with something else for our Saturday piece, but for the time being let's just chill out under the notes of...

Following Todoroke! Taiko no Tatsujin as the exponent of contemporary Taiko-styled music, the decade that's behind us is represented by a Future Bass piece from newcoming BNS Sounds artist Sho Okada (岡田祥), powered by a pinch of kawaii and Vaporwave sounds that were either on-the-rise or bithed within the same time span.

The composer's publicly-shared working portfolio before and during his job as a Bandai Namco musician currently lies in mystgery, with little to tell about to this date. From yesterday's Taiko Team blog entry, we came to know how Sho Okada is the composer of the ongoing arcade line's Ranking Dojo course selection menu BGM but aside that, the artist had no other role ingaming thus far, if only for himself being one of the main advertised artists for the 2020-started BanNam in-house label ASOBINOTES (official website).

Parading the motto of 'Play with Music' and donning a logo with the spirit of space and infinite in mind, the label focuses on modern renditions of music from the company's former catalog alongside the introduction of brand new music-oriented projects, such as the recurring Den'onbu which already had multiple incursion into Taiko gaming. Other highlights of ASOBINOTES include Vocaloid-powered song revisitations (with the company-proprietary Mirai Komachi being listed as one of the labels' main members!), live/online DJ Set events with 'sneak peeks' at the company's future sounds (worth mentioning the one held for New Year 2021, during which the 15th anniversary song for the iDOLM@STER series was first unveiled) and independent album releases starring both original and remixed works. Sho Okada himself has played a relevant role in the last two camps as one of the artist contributors to August 7th, 2020's ASOBINOTES album ALL ABOUT LOVE vol.1; always from yesterday's Taiko Team blog entry, we also came to know that he performed during the label's very first online event as a DJ... without permission!

Parallel Lollipop charter SueP (すえP) prized the unique feeling of unknowingly being able to ace really complex patterns for this job the most, ultimately resulting into a compound cluster-heavy tricky trial that is well capable of supplying the same headscratching moments a-la No Gravity and Synchronica Airlines, while not being a top-star contender at the same time.
