Song of the Week! 17 October 2026

As embarassing as it sounds, I got some swamped from off-keyboard duties I (almost) forgot to pen something for today! Good thing there's something topical from the most unexpected of places, for this fix...

You can never know what do I write about when my memory botches me of an itch, but if this is the way I cover the second General-User-Voting-elected song from the 2024 after Senkou Tenbu, so it shall be! In of itself, it also happens to be a handy way to stay mighty topical on the subject, considering the official dual-artist-tag upload of the song on YouTube that was released mere hours ago.

Backed by oxygen-depriving dnb segues and a faint vocal lead, siren's eye comes from the capable hands of a couple composers: the nicknamed Katagiri (X account; SoundCloud) and Frums (X account; SoundCloud), one returning to Taiko contest glory after his Tokeru's victory in 2023 and the other joining the Taiko crowd at the first time (and by Donder popular demand, at that!). Both also have their share of experiences as BMS artists (Katagiri's Angel's Salad and Frums for many others including 2015's Wavetapper and Credits) as well as a shared history of being victors on their own for music submission contests hosted for lowiro's Arcaea, giving life to the former's HIVEMIND (and its April Fools remix) and the latter's Grand-Prized Aegleseeker, in association with the also-Taiko-contest-winner silentroom. As revealed by the same Frums on X (link), the vocals for siren's eye were supplied by Chis-A (知声), a voice bank from Techno-speech Inc.'s VoiSona voice synthesis software.

With most of the track flowing at 270BPM (with x0.8 scrolling modifiers), you'd think stamina loss alone is enough to sell anyone on this chart's Oni dastardly tricks, but its Go-Go Time is more than meets the eye! (heh) Seriously, all the longer clusters followed by slightly-arranged single note decrements means that hitting the drum faster than usual right after the cluster might result in accuracy loss (or downright misses), so you can imagine how big the issue is when it presents itself twelve-fold in such a short notice, and with changing Don/Kat combinations at that!
