Across Japan (April 30 2015) - Chikuzei ~GEAR UP~ in Asia and May Tournament Preview

Can I assume all of you guys long expected Chikuzei ~GEAR UP~ to come to Asia version at month change tomorrow (May 1)? Good. Let's go to the tournament now.

May's tournament will be pushed back a little later into the month, due to some of the Team's internal reasons. Check back for the song choices on May 13 and give it your all  in the tournament from May 16~24. Results should come on May 27.

List of Title Parts in Taiko no Tatsujin (Murasaki Version)

From Momoiro Version 2.04 onwards, arcade Banapassport players are able to set titles for their personal nickname either with one of the titles previously unlocked by doing specific tasks or by creating a new one by scratch by using specific title parts.

These title parts are basically divided into two different groups: nouns and phrases ('Group A') and symbols or connectives ('Group B'). Players can use up to 2 words from Group A and a symbol/connective from Group B to construct a custom title, following the scheme A-B-A. Any spot of said scheme can be left blank and the slots for Group A words can be filled with the same word.

While all the units from Group B are unlocked by default, players have to get the title parts from Group A through the rewards shop. Certain Group A parts can be unlocked only by achieving specific goals just like regular titles, whose unlocking requirements are explained into Murasaki Version's unlock page.

List of titles in Taiko no Tatsujin (Murasaki Version)

The title system was introduced by a firmware update in Taiko 0, and gives players with access to Banapassports nicknames to put beside their usernames while they play, as a mark of their in-game achievements, much like in other rhythm games with user profiles. The titles can be interchanged in Donder Hiroba when you have obtained them, and the one currently selected will display on the arcade screen wherever the player name is. Some titles unlock hidden content like songs and costumes.

It is possible to get more than one title in a go by overlapping the conditions for unlocking them. In addition, for newer players, Don Points (DP) will also be given out for titles they get.

Almost all the titles from the Kimidori Version are available on Murasaki as well, with the addition of new title unlocks. Once again, titles are not ordered under a numerical order.

Titles are listed below, translated into English wherever possible.

First Video: THE IDOLM@STER

The weekly Idolm@ster song addition starts today! But why a First Video feature? Are you telling me that THE IDOLM@STER added today is not the 4/5/5/7, forked at Oni 10-year-old gem like the above?

Well no. Or else why are we doing this. Check out the new notechart after the jump.

Across Japan (April 27 2015) - Last Boss is Global (at least Asian)

And the mystery song DLC for Wii U2 is Sachi Sachi ni Shite Ageru, after NicoNico Chokaigi has its exclusivity ended a few hours back. It comes with a full body Sachiko Kobayashi costume so you can last-boss across the Taiko fields. Dandy.

Check out the First Video portion after the jump.

Song of the Week! 25 April 2015

This week's hot topic is...'what is up with all these songs having the exact same title???'. In particular, as the Digimon Adventures opening theme, Butter-Fly, is coming to Taiko no Tatsujin on Vita, that makes it the third song in Taiko's history to use the lepidopteran insect as a song title (except this time with an extra hyphen!). The first two? Both are in today's feature!

Across Japan: Murasaki's first update!

Asian donders can look forward to an exciting month of new songs as, starting next Monday, tons of new songs will be released for Murasaki! On April 27th, four new songs will be out, corresponding to the JP Murasaki's first and second updates.

Game Version 1.10 (Asia) will contain:

君に桜ヒラリと舞う Kimi ni Sakura-hirari to Mau
さぁ行け!ニンニンジャー! Saa Yuke! Ninninger!
 あったかいんだからぁ♪ Attakai'n Dakara♪
 ケラケラじゃんけん Kerakera Jyanken

In addition, the Nihon Elekitel Renhou cllabolation collaboration will be coming to Asia, offering costumes of their two hostesses! The collab will run from April 28th to August 31st, so you have about three months to grab the costumes~!

And there's....even more? The gradual release of the IM@S songs, previously announced on the Taiko Team's livestream...that's going to be brought over too! Well, four out of five of the songs anyway: THE IDOLM@STER, Thank You! (a new song), Maou o Kakete! and shiny smile will grace Asian Murasaki with their presence beginning April 28th. The dates of release are all on the above image!

Have fun, overseas players!

Taiko no Tatsujin V Version song list

No, V Version isn't the name for a new Taiko arcade firmware, but rather a console offering with the V standing for Vita, Sony PSP's portable successor. Like PSP DX, the game features a Story mode with Don-Chan fighting a variety of enemies with the power of well-timed hits and special cards equipped, in another RPG hybrid system for the series, borrowing heavily from Square Enix's Dragon Quest for the setting.

Taiko no Tatsujin V Version is the first Taiko title for a Sony console to use the updated HD layout already present on 3DS and Wii U, with updated difficulty rating standards. As such, it inherits a lot of modes and elements from modern arcade and Nintendo Taiko games. The menu navigation and in-game visuals match those of the 3DS, the Vocaloid genre is introduced, the Stamp Album from 3DS and Training mode from Wii/Wii U are included and additional downloadable content is implemented for more songs and outfit parts to purchase.

Random: Donkama2000 with Detarame Full Combo - Twice the Random

Donkama 2000 is already known to be king of the gimmick charts, and many have resorted to memorizing the song in order to clear it. But what happens if you turn on the random notes modifier? Surely it is impossible to clear, let alone full combo, a series of randomized notes at randomized speeds?

Well, someone has done the impossible, on the Wii U Tokumori version! ...although, the method isn't quite as fair as you'd imagine. By repeatedly pausing the game, it is possible to hit each note one by one at your own leisure, though such a feat can't be easy, as it would still be very possible to miss a note or two. Also, keep in mind, this method involves pausing over 700 times! You'd had to have really good patience to do something like this.

Well, as I say, the only way to beat a cheating song is to cheat yourself!

THE COLL@BM@STER (17/04/2015)

It's time for another of these! Collaboration was the word for last week's Taiko Team streaming session, as our drumming series reaches once again both close and distant worlds. Credit to nigelliusnitrox, crystalsuicune and the Taiko Team's Twitter page for the pictures!

This feature will be a little slimmer than usual in the image side due to some viewing issues from us, but we hope you'll enjoy the read.

More songs for Taiko V Version

In a recently released promotional video by Sony for PlayStation's Spring/Summer 2015 line-up, we confirm one more song for the upcoming V Version!  天の弱 Amanojaku was chosen to showcase the Vocaloid song selection.

Namco Original Showcase: 'no Ran' Songs

Eagerly anticipated for years, this is the third song series in Taiko games entirely made by Tatsuya "Zeami/Tatsh" Shimizu (清水達也), the popular composer in gerenal rhythm game lore who revealed his identity in occasion of the 2013 Taiko arcade tourney's finals.

Much like the 'no Mai' songs, this series includes tracks whose titles end with the words 'no Ran' (ノ乱) at the end, which also defines the background theme for these songs. This series, however, features all instrumental tracks, all of which have set the bar for difficult Oni patterns and gimmicks higher and higher, alongside the already-well-known 2000 songs.

It's also worth mentioning that this is the first song series in Taiko games where the Taiko fans themselves have played a big role into the songs' introduction in many aspects: their presentation, a tangible help for other players in terms of their unlock in arcade through custom movements (such as the 'Yuugen Missionaries') and even their creation, thanks to the feedback received by the Taiko Team during several Nicovideo livestream sessions in the past.

The Almost Transient Mysteries: Are You Confident in your Stamina?

Confident In Stamina (体力には自信あり) is a new title added in Murasaki ver., that has spawned a surprising long time of confusion. It is high time we also cover this, as Murasaki ver. operates in Asia and is confirmed to contain this title.

At Murasaki release, many Japanese Donders, noting the title's namesake, reasonably tried among the, more hefty of notecharts, including the over-1000-note club like Shimedore 2000, Yuugen no Ran, Yami no Mahou Shoujo etc. The confusion kicks in when reports that even with the same songs it would sometimes not work.

A current theory, noted on wikihouse, is that the condition is to achieve 1000 hits (inclusive of Greats, Goods and drumroll/balloon/Kusudama hits) in any one song in your credit. The title is reported to also grant even if you fail the credit. Given there has been quite a lot of wiggle room (especially on the exact border), it is difficult to fully confirm this theory.

In other news, Murasaki ver. also adds a number of new Oni Full Combo titles, for some of the harder new songs added in Kimidori including Love x Love Whistle, Dokadoka and Yami no Mahou Shoujo.

Song of the Week! 18 April 2015

With a new Taiko game revealed a few days ago, let's get towards the end of this week with a song feature from the latest Sony-released Taiko game!

I know this is kind of a predictable choice but hey, the new PS Vita game's reveal demands so.

V Version Scourging: Songs and Other Details from Around the Internet

Sourced from this Plurk

Originally titled "Kibo e no Melody". Taken down and refactored to fit everything into one post.
And we found the actual Famitsu scans! The full print article has a lot more details worked into the RPG mode introduction. For instance, we now know that Maple has a butler-looking yellow fairy sidekick called Lira da Gamba (リラ・ダ・ガンバ, referencing a mid-20th century instrument).

The battle system is also different once again from previous installments. Within the notechart, sometimes a special note with the 必 character will appear. Hit it correctly and get a chance to deal some really great damage by initiating a Finishing Move (必殺技) from cards you have equipped. For some it even involves characters from other franchises as a collaborative effort, like God Eater 2 Rage Burst! Other equippables like the weapon, armor and support cards and Don-chan's outfit items also give boosts.

The Famitsu magazine is not the only place for new info though. Japan's Amazon.com has also just listed the game for preorder with its own image set! The picture above is one of these, framing a gameplay screen with a brand new Namco Original: Kibo e no Melody (希望へのメロディー; lit. Melody to Hope), possibly the theme song of the next portable Taiko game. In non-pictoral news, the description also lists Guren no Yumiya, Cruel Angel's Thesis and THE IDOLM@STER as returning tunes. The menu screenshot shows the Additional Contents (追加コンテンツ) tab, meaning DLC is once again expected, if you doubted it before.

On other online shops like Neowing and Amiami, it also adds BLAZING VORTEX to the Game Music department. The composition is from Critical Veloci-ty, which had given us Sunset Runaway just last console game on Wii U2, and probably will stand as the "Last GM New Boss" for this game (term coined by Lokamp here). Another returning port of Imagination from Haikyuu! is also notable.

In terms of the RPG mode, Neowing further elaborated that the difficulty will be adjustable among Normal/Hard/Very Hard (中辛/辛口/激辛), meaning this game does not hold your hand with an Easy mode, all while pushing to new limits with a brand new setting never seen in the series.

[Breaking] Donkama 2000 DFCed on AC0

A lot of posts today, I know. This will be the last one. I hope.

After 10 months plus 14 days from its June 2 release last year, the intermittent explosive beast that is Donkama 2000 finally succumbs to the hands of Sugaragi. Wow, just wow.

According to the accomplished Donder's own Twitter post, he has played 600-plus times before this ultimate feat. Props man, all due props to you.

Across Asia: Update from Murasaki

As expected, the songs on the poster from Taiko Team aren't the only ones that are new to the game. Hataraku 2000, Jinpuumaru (Ura) and Zeihen ~transformation all made it in, the Don Point unlocks are as usual. Two other songs were opened up to Asia, that have been in JP since the original firmware. That's a three year wait!

The songs are:
  • Punishment
  • Kill Me no Baby

The evidence comes from the Taiwanese group of Taiko fans!

Both are high-difficulty Onis, sure to give veteran players quite a bit of entertainment!

Murasaki (Asia)'s songlist will be updated with the changes as soon as possible!

Addendum, April 17 2015:
After a first day it is also confirmed that more latecomers including Sakuranbo, Kiseki, and Kurae! Butto Burst!! also made it.

Twitter Snippets (April 16 2015) - Taiko V Version: Teaser Site Up and Official Twitter Feed

Following the Famitsu article, the official site for the upcoming Taiko no Tatsujin V Version at http://vita.taiko-ch.net/ has just put up a teaser page citing the general specs. More interestingly is that Don-chan will be tweeting (vicarious by a mun of course) all about the new game on the dedicated Twitter account @taiko_Vver! If you want to stay updated to all things V Version, follow the account now!

Namco Taiko Blog 2 (April 16 2015) - April 17 Livestream: More Details de Last Minute

That Etou is not standing by at the Twitter feed doesn't mean he can't ask Takemoto to update with a blog post telepathically (more probably by email or office hard disk)!

Because we are expecting a full three hours of livestream goodness and a lot of exclusive info and reveals, here is a detailed schedule (that is much subject to impromptu changes) so that you don't miss out on the thing(s) you really want to see! As a last strand of secrecy, there are mysterious "???" section that the Team is not gonna tell you until it hits 'ya.

Namco Taiko Blog (April 16 2015) - Wii U2 April DLC [RETRACTED 12:00]

Daifuku bringing you new for Taiko Wii U2! The April downloadable content, to be released on April 27, is significantly less glamorous than last month's (three completely new, one fan favourite plus one), with two Murasaki ver. debuts and no outfit items:

Miracle Go! プリンセスプリキュア Miracle Go! Princess PreCure
 ケラケラじゃんけん Kerakera Jyanken
Maybe there would be one more song? Daifuku decides to not say for sure.

Addendum, April 16 12:00:
Due to various issues and uncertainties, fixes and tweaks are needed for the April DLC information. As such, it has been decided to retract the announcement for now. The release date and song list will be announced again later when it is confirmed.

That's it from Daifuku for today. Remember Friday's livestream, and come back later for another blog post.

Taiko no Tatsujin Murasaki Version (International) songlist

Asian version HD Taiko firmware has always lagged a month behind its Japanese counterpart, and this is no different. Released on April 16th, 2015, one month after Japanese players got their purple Taiko passion, most of everything from Kimidori Version carries over to Murasaki, with another extension to the Don Point unlockable path corresponding to JP Murasaki's, and the interface tweaks along with it.

Songlist-wise, most, if not all of the debut songs from JP Murasaki safely made it into ASI Murasaki, with the addition of some licensed songs from Kimidori, and even a few surprises from way before.

Twitter Snippets (April 15 2015) - Oh No You Don't. See Nippon Elekitel Rengo for yourself!

Following the expected addition of various Nippon Elekitel Rengo collaborative goods, the comedy duo will be appearing in the livestream of April 17 and talks with the Taiko Team about it. Watch it happen, as well as other exciting Taiko happenings, on the show!

Across Japan (April 15 2015) - April Tournament Results

Here's April's tournament results in the great Asia region! How is everyone doing in the carnage?

Oni's very gusty challenge has Korea's Sesan pulling a Donderful Combo, triumphing the competition.

In the first ever doubles tournament that is Muzukashii department, familiar Hong Kong ranker Garnet teams up with Iyaro takes the cake with a total of only 11 可s. Iyaro also played with fellow Hong Kong Donder Watashi~ and secures a rather close second. It might be that it is hard to meet up for a doubles round, there are only 18 qualifying pairs listed this time, and the scores kinda sloops quite quickly towards the end.

For May, let's celebrate Murasaki ver. finally making to Asia by choosing only new songs, the Team says. Song choices will be announced on May 6 and the tournaments will run from May 9~17.

Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version! [UPDATE]

Taiko Drum Master: Tokumori!

*thanks to chatbox user Dary16 for the find!*

What you're looking at is not the title for yet another software 'version' for the current arcade generation, but instead it's the title for the next portable console entry for the Taiko franchise, making its debut on Sony's Playstation Vita!

Twitter Snippets 2 (13 April 2015) - The RPG Extreme

The baseball-related collaboration wasn't the only hot Taiko news for yesterday, as another Nicovideo stream has anticipated something from this week's incoming Taiko stream.

The livestream for this year's edition of the Exibitors Wars (出展企業ウォーズ) event has revealed that the edition of this year will feature the highly-anticipated Square-Enix title Final Fantasy XIV, and the Taiko arcades available for the event will feature the limited song The Navel Extreme (極タイタン討滅戦) for every attender to enjoy. If you can attend the event that's a one-time chance to try out the only song featuring giant note balloons and mid-way drumrolls during said giant balloons!

This Friday's Taiko Team livestream will give further details about the Exhibitors Wars event as well, so we'll be getting a more detailed reminder in a few days.

Across Japan (April 13 2015) - Murasaki Spreads!

Ladies and gentlemen of the Donderverse, we present to you: the announcement of Murasaki ver. update coming to Asian regions on April 16! This of course brings many of the Murasaki debuts (not all though :( ) and also reciprocating some of the missed Kimidori introductions.

Because there is no actual completely new songs here, instead of the usual red-blue new markers, we will be using purple NEW! marks to signal a Murasaki debut, and a yellow-green NEW! for the late-runners:

New Songs!
 Follow Me NEW!
 Dragon Night NEW!
 Highschool ♡ love NEW!
Do You Want To Build A Snowman NEW!
 Miracle Go! Princess PreCure NEW!
 Seishun Satsubatsu-ron NEW!
 SURPRISE-DRIVE NEW!
 M.S.S.Planet NEW!
 Luka Luka Night Fever NEW!
 EDY -Electrical Dacing Yoga- NEW!
Bokura no Sekai ni Dance o NEW!
 World's End Dance Hall NEW!
 RAINMAKER NEW!
Iro wa Nioedo Chirinuru o NEW!
 Gensou no Satellite NEW!
 Chikochiko NEW!
 Zero no Rhapsody NEW!

We are missing a rather expectable selection of licensed songs including all Yokai Watch songs. The all four im@s songs from the recent collaborations with two mobile phone spin-offs are unfortunately missing for now, but we have a rather nice track record of them running in later so there is still hope.

New DonPoint unlocks will of course not be said here, but completionists might find themselves more empty bars to fill and adding Night And Day, Sunset Runaway and Mahoujin -Summon Delta- to their song list. Hataraku 2000 and Jinpuumaru Ura was never noted in the Japan ver.'s song addition log, so their absence here doesn't mean they won't be released in the final firmware.

In promotional news, together with RAINMAKER (the song) is the special Kazuchika Okada x Taiko no Tatsujin T-shirt still available on the NJPW web-store. The shop also serves overseas in a dedicated section with a few further clicks.

Remember to come back on Wednesday (April 15) for the tournament results that just closed yesterday!
