First screenshots and details of Taiko no Tatsujin V Version

Just a little while after its initial leak, Famitsu.com has posted the official announcement article of the latest console version Taiko, Taiko no Tatsujin V Version! A brand-new story mode and more await Sony handheld owners this generation, and it promises to be a doozy.

The Vita's richer, more high-definition screen can mean only one thing: super clear, crisp graphics on a handheld Taiko. While there isn't footage of the game yet, it does almost look like you're carrying a carbon copy of the arcade interface in your pocket. The above shot? That's Tsumamikui Ensou (Guide Mode), which was introduced in Taiko Portable 2 for PSP, and later included in Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Ketteiban and Chogoukaban. Now, it's here once again on PSVita (this time simply named 'Taiko Training' instead of any fancy stuff) to help with all your Taiko-playing woes!

The Story Mode this time around is named 'Donder Quest'. Not being very subtle with a certain RPG reference, are we? Heheh. Anyway, the RPG this time is slightly different from the ones on 3DS. You still beat up enemies with the power of song and level up to get stronger, but instead of recruiting enemies to your cause, you seem to have a deck of cards to whack baddies with and grant you special powers. Not sure how this will work out yet, but we'll see.

The story has you teaming up with a heroine named Maple, whose ultimate goal is to fell the ancient dragon named Revolution. A dragon as the main antagonist? Why does it all sound so famil- *dragged away*

Anyway, the important stuff! Taiko no Tatsujin V Version will have over 80 songs in its starting songlist (not counting potential DLC songs), and will be released this year on July 9th. Stay tuned for more information!

Thanks to Dary16 and Minori Brawler for the tip-off!
