Song of the Week! 4 January 2014

Let's start off 2014 with two Namco Originals coming from a couple of freelance composers, both of which have been ported to the latest console Taiko.

We often talk about Taiko composing contests on this site, but thus far we haven't discussed the individual creations on this corner that much. So, here are two CreoFuga songs from the first batch released for Taiko PSP DX!

Today's first pick is Koi no Shohousen (lit. Prescription of Love), composed by Inoue Bona (井上ぼな) and sung by M (...yep, just M. ). This is one of the CreoFUGA song contest's winning songs whose original title was modified from the one featured in the original track, whgich for this song's case was 'Mune ga Dokidoki! Koi wa Shohousen!' (ムネがどきどき!恋の処方箋!, with the cutoff first part meaning 'My heart is pounding!'). While we don't know anything about this mysterious female voice yet (apart from the fact that she isn't a robot), the composer has already talked a bit about himself in an interview for the Taiko Team blog.

Koi no Shohousen is actually Bona's first love song, whose motif was inspired by some of his personal musical interests in anime and drama scores. During that interview, Bona admitted his passion of Go Shiina and Masubuchi Yuuji creations as well! Though he joined the other CreoFuga Taiko contest with no success, he gets another chance to shine on Taiko, with his song Uso-uso Doki as one the new default Namco Original tracks on Taiko Momoiro Version.

Koi no Shohousen's Oni mode, while being pretty low on notecount, proves to be a good 7* Oni with its various clusters and drumrolls all along the song.

To be 100% honest with you guys, this was the one song I wanted to hear the most as soon as the eight winners were announced, and the long wait was really worth it in the end, being released on PSP DX as the final new Original DLC song.

3piece-JazzParty! is, well, just what the title says: a 3-piece (3 instruments), fast-paced piano jazz track! It was composed by Mihile (ミハイル) during his free time, after being inspired by a jazz piano CD. According to the Taiko Team interview with Mihile, 3piece's creation took quite a long time, as he had to correct many errors on piano keys during the creation process. Mihile's works are inspired not only by classic piano composers (Beethoven and Chopin) but also by game music creations and composers as well, such as Nobuo Uematsu and jazz and piano tracks in general, like Taiko's Sports Digestdon. You can find out more about Mihile in his website.

With 3piece being ported to multiple Taiko games, Mihile tried again to join the fun in this Namco franchise by joining the Spring '13 CreoFuga contest with the song 4piece-JazzPanic!. While it didn't managed to be one of the eleven winners, the song got an honorable mention by Burning Force Medley's composer and Etou himself, both regretful for canning this tentative sequel to 3piece.

This song's Oni mode proves to be an aggressive threat in multiple ways. Not only is it filled to the brim with clusters and handswitch, with no break between them, but 1/24 sections thrown into the mix and a medium-long stream in the 2nd half throw many players off, making an FC for this 9* Oni quite a challenge.
