The End of an Era: Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 1/2's DLC Discontinuation

Freely-downloadable tracks for the PSP's first two Taiko no Tatsujin Portable titles have been openly shared with its players for a cumulative period of time that surpasses the decade, although it looks like this situation isn't going to last any longer.

The two notices above, available in the two games' respective websites, promptly inform that the DLC tracks will be removed from the official websites after January 31st. If you want to add the 40-or-so songs to your games before they're gone for good, you can check out one of our earliest guides on this blog, by following this link.

Twitter Snippets (September 16 2015) - Calling the End for PSP DX [Updated Sept 17]

A whopping four years after its first release and three other handheld console games in between, Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX is finally called to a full end, as all downloadable content, including re-downloads of already purchased elements, will stop being available after September 30, 2015. This is a genuine last call to grab whatever you want from the game before that date.

Update (September 17 2015): Taiko Portable and Portable 2 are NOT closing DLC together with DX for now, but if and when it does in the future there will be due notice before-hand.

Namco Taiko Blog (9 December 2010)- Taiko Portable 2 Download Pack 8

It's that time of the month again, when Namco announces it's monthly two-song pack for the ever expanding songlist of Taiko Portable 2. The songs for December are:

Future Lab (フューチャー・ラボ)
Toccata and Fugue and Rock (トッカータとフーガとロック)

Both songs will be available for download on the 15th this month, so keep a reminder! These two songs really aren't half bad, though I wouldn't mind something with more Christmas mood since it's the end of the year and all. They talk briefly about Twitter immediately after the main business is done with, and in the source code too.

Namco Taiko Blog (17 November 2010)- PSP2 November pack ready for download

Today's update was rather small, and was just a reminder to Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 owners that the two new downloadable songs for November are now available. The two are Yuujou Pop and Fantasie Impromptu...Oh, and they've forgotten to announce this last month, but the total song list for Taiko Portable 2 has now exceeded 100 songs! It's still a record holder in the series!

And, a little bit of news to get Wii owners excited- another blog update will be posted this Friday, and it's regarding the Taiko Wii 3 song list. Cross your fingers!

Namco Taiko Blog (11 November 2010): Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 7th Download Pack

Another pair of songs is going to be available for the lucky download service of TnT Portable 2! This time, November puts an effort with hard classics and popular songs:

Fantasie Impromptu (幻想即興曲)
Yuujou Pop (友情ぽっぷ)

We have already seen the rock interpretation of one of Frèdèric Chopin's most famous piano compositions since Taiko 11, and since then it became an honorable 10* guest through arcade games.

Yuujou Pop refers to another popular Namco Original song. Either this tune is an ordinary client for arcade games, since Taiko 12.5.

PSP donders, start your engines! These two songs will be available on November 17th.

Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 song list

Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 boxart
One of Namco's most successful and comprehensive Taiko games to date. Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 was released on the PSP on September 2006, and is sometimes viewed as an expansion pack to the first game, as many Namco Originals previously downloadable on PSP1 are included in PSP2, and new downloadable songs are provided.

Discounting the console games and downloadable songs, Taiko Portable 2 has the biggest handheld song library to date prior to its successor, boasting a total of 62 songs (although admittedly many of those were repeats from PSP1). Add in the downloadable songs and its total number exceed that of any Taiko game ever made. This makes up for the fact that, again, PSP cannot support a simulated drum controller. It is also the first console Taiko to feature a Story mode, which is done in 5 chapters and includes a stage play, quiz, and songs to play. Unlike the later Story modes in Taiko DS, this one is comparatively linear.

To commemorate the success of the download system, Namco re-introduced support for the download service for PSP2 in May 2010 (which ended in January 2011 to make way for the release of Portable DX), introducing at least 2 new songs per month from the later Taiko games after Portable 2's generation. There are 20 of these.

Namco Taiko Blog (7 October 2010)- Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 6th download pack

Today, Namco announced another two songs to be available for download on Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 for the month of October. The two songs are...

Kimi no Akari
Symphonic Motos

Oh my god. Kimi no Akari. Taiko 13's ending song, on its first console debut. And I was really hoping for it to come to Taiko Wii 3...There's still hope though, if Namco has some sense.

The other is the orchestral remix of music from the game Motos, not seen since Taiko 10.

When can you expect to download them? October 20th, about two weeks off. Don't forget!

Namco Taiko Blog (5 August 2010)- Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 4th download pack

Link to original post, in Japanese.

Tako PSP2 has recently been getting attention again from Namco, and downloadable packs of new songs that weren't available at the time are now being made for Taiko PSP2, so PSP owners won't have to feel left out (well, since the series moved to Nintendo systems).

By August 18th this year, the 4th downloadable pack will be released, containing 2 songs.

Kikyoku: Seasons of Asia (季曲 ~Seasons of Asia~)
IN THE ZONE (Ace Combat x2 Joint Assault)
The latter is a new song, for the upcoming Ace Combat game of the same name, and...whoa.

TEN STARS. Jesus! Looks like that's another 10 star game music song to be released to Taiko 14 alongside Metal Hawk BGM1. Can't wait to see it!
