Kikyoku/Seasons of Asia Series New Entry Naming Contest Result Announcement

Together with the announcement of the large-scale update for Taiko no Tatsujin (mainland China 4th-gen), the result for the Kikyoku/Seasons of Asia Series New Entry Naming Contest is also announced in a video letter on Bilibili dated 2025/01/03. With the accompanying announcement on the Asia ver. Facebook Fan Page the next day (embedded above), we are talking about this in a separate post.

As shown in the slide image, the winning name is 桂月 (Keigetsu) submitted by Link, meaning the moon (and the osmanthus tree on it as told in legends), as well as an alternate name for the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. While themes of autumn and winter are common among entries given how spring and summer are very well represented in the series (like Shunyuu and Kayou), this name implies autumn vibes without actually using the typical kanji (秋), as well as moon viewing traditions in mid-autumn not uncommon across East Asia.

The video letter also mentions the very close runner-up of 涅槃 (Nehan, meaning Nirvana) submitted by multiple respondents, literally down to the final minutes of decision. The original meaning of breaking free from the cycle of rebirth was invoked by respondents to commemorate the release of the mainland China arcade version, symbolizing breaking free from years of waiting.

With the kanji name determined, Taiko Team will begin working with the musical talents to shape the final product. Stay tuned to all official channels for future developments on this endeavor. (and maybe more opportunities for Donder input?)
