In its erratic ways for general Game Music representation in recent memory, the Taiko no Tatsujin franchise is starting to sport a habit of sorts for featuring arrangements of music and/or character themes from ongoing popular gacha games, right at the start of a new year. In 2024, it was for Nijiiro Version and arranges of music from Blue Archive, whereas next week it's coming up the TMP-subscription-heralded debut of a doujin-song-turned-official-CM-music from Chinese gacha gaming company MiHoYo's latest game release from last year: Zenless Zone Zero.
Debuting worldwide on July 4th for mobile (iOS/Android), PC (Windows) and PlayStation 5, this is a game that has bolstered a few closed beta test rounds since May 2022. Set in a near-future landscape, the world is ravaged by the rise of mysterious pocket dimensions -the Hollows- scattered across all major cities and releasing a number of hostile creatures called the Ethereals to lay waste everywhere, managing to destroy even humanity's biggest city Eridu. Recluded in the confines of the much-smaller New Eridu and powered by the mysterious Ether energy that can be extracted by the same Hollows, humanity is planning a strike-back campaign via incursions with elite field combat forces from a number of faction -the Agents- and a number of operators to remotely direct their actions, called the Proxies. Zenless Zone Zero puts players in charge of either Wise or Belle, two siblings running a VHS rental store in New Eridu who are secretly the operators of the legendary Phaethon Proxy, capable to directly control the contracted Agents for field operations via the so-called Hollow Deep Dive System, while also supplying combat assistance with a number of tecnology-born helpers, from the Bangboo robots to the Hollows-analizing A.I. Fairy.
Zenless Zone Zero's gameplay alternates between 2D-dungeon-crawler-based exploration and 3D hack-and-slash combat, where the employed Agents can clear their way through via their own combat skills as well as Bangboos loadout for greater damage outputs. The game's Agents come from a number of in-universe agencies, some mainly geared for offensive goals while others are primarily focused on assisting the contracted parties, or even entertaining them as bona-fide idol acts. Inbetween these two extremes lies the Victoria Housekeeping Co. agency, whose gothic-dress-donning Agents are often called for personal maid services as well as item retrieval operations inside Hollows areas; it's this agency the one to entroll the humanoid-shark agent Ellen Joe from the Thiren species, a laid-back girl attending school at New Eridu while also working as a part-timer maid.
Shortly after the official launch of Zenless Zone Zero, the nicknamed issey (YouTube; Twxttxr) has released an original 'image song' for Ellen Joe that received a single release on July 19th last year, while also publishing its official MV on her own YT channel just a few days later, on the 23rd. Soon enough, the doujin song became popular to the point of its creator being approached by MiHoYo higher-ups to make it pop up for the game's video AD rolls on video-sharing websites, further boosting its visibility share! Once again, the coming of a popular gacha-based sensation in Taiko is facilitated by one of the Namco-Original-involved artists having a hand into its arranged creation; for MoeChakkaFire's case, its overall arrangement was handled by the nicknamed necchi (YouTube; Twxttxr), whose original song Hater not only managed to be a Taiko no Tatsujin contest-winner, but it was also one of the Namco Originals to be part of last year's Nijisanji-fostered FOCUS ON collaboration!
