Song of the Week! 4 January 2025

The ringing of a new year comes with everyone gazing to the future in stre within its shores... and what better course of action from us to follow suit with another 'sneak peak' kind of feature?

Kikyoku/Seasons of Asia Series New Entry Naming Contest Result Announcement

Together with the announcement of the large-scale update for Taiko no Tatsujin (mainland China 4th-gen), the result for the Kikyoku/Seasons of Asia Series New Entry Naming Contest is also announced in a video letter on Bilibili dated 2025/01/03. With the accompanying announcement on the Asia ver. Facebook Fan Page the next day (embedded above), we are talking about this in a separate post.

As shown in the slide image, the winning name is 桂月 (Keigetsu) submitted by Link, meaning the moon (and the osmanthus tree on it as told in legends), as well as an alternate name for the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. While themes of autumn and winter are common among entries given how spring and summer are very well represented in the series (like Shunyuu and Kayou), this name implies autumn vibes without actually using the typical kanji (秋), as well as moon viewing traditions in mid-autumn not uncommon across East Asia.

The video letter also mentions the very close runner-up of 涅槃 (Nehan, meaning Nirvana) submitted by multiple respondents, literally down to the final minutes of decision. The original meaning of breaking free from the cycle of rebirth was invoked by respondents to commemorate the release of the mainland China arcade version, symbolizing breaking free from years of waiting.

With the kanji name determined, Taiko Team will begin working with the musical talents to shape the final product. Stay tuned to all official channels for future developments on this endeavor. (and maybe more opportunities for Donder input?)

Taiko no Tatsujin (Mainland China 4th-gen) Spring 2025 Updates

For those who have been keeping track of our previous update post (singular) on the mainland China 4th-generation arcade of Taiko no Tatsujin, you might have started to wonder when the "Summer 2024" season will end as the colder months come and go.

That question has finally been answered yesterday (2025/01/03), when the promotional video for the "Spring 2025" season released on Bilibili, dating the large-scale update for 2025/01/15. Main additions of the new update (and beyond) include:
  • 32 tracks added including both mainland China exclusives and catch-up with the rest of the world in the main update. See below jump for the teased tracks and Ura Oni notecharts
  • New players using the Player ID to set up their Donder profile can play their first credit for free
  • Rolling in Rewards Campaign Spring 2025 coming soon (no date listed)
  • Ranking Dojo 2024 coming soon in February 2025 (2023 trials will retire on 2025/01/28)
  • Drummers' Square mini-program updates coming soon in February 2025, including the overall result panel, Ranking Dojo data and player search
While there is no full update notes from the WeChat official account as of this writing, we will continually update this post as further information arise.

Taiko Team's Morikawa (producer for mainland China 4th-gen) and Etou also spoke about the update in a video letter on Bilibili, including development on a certain previous contest...?

Chirping Crumbles (January 1st, 2025) - New-Year Farewells from steμ

...yep, we're retiring the "Twitter Snippets" naming brand for the world of instant SNS findings! After all, we got more than a tentative social media website to scout these kinds of news from (Mastodon and BlueSky, mainly) and chances are it would have let the title degrade itself into "Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx", at some point. Now, where was I...

Right at the turn of a new year, we're hit with the departure news from Bandai Namco of another renowned BNSI inhouse composer, one that has been behind several Namco Originals and a few of the modern original music contests as a judge.

Yu Sugimoto, better known under the steμ alias, has left Bandai Namco during last month's end, publicly announcing the news with the opening of a proprietary X account at this year's start. The Taiko Drum Monster-famed artist has not quit the music-making scene altogether, but he's taking 5 sabbatical months in order to recover his strengths for his future endeavors.

[ACN] - A Slithering New Year at Taiko's

The latest Year of the Snake has been kickstarted with a handful of new content pertaining the Taiko no Tatsujin series, the first of which being the customary January 1st Namco Original following the same trend. Until this month's First Video Portal is out, enjoy the latest original composition from Daisuke Kurosawa above these very lines!

After the jump are a couple of Taiko-related contents releasing quite soon, in conjuntion with a TV-broadcast New Year special airing a few hours from now.
