rasens (Rasen Shuukai Kidou)
Today's story concerns the renewed joined effort of two separate artists, for which dedicated Song of the Week introspections have been lightly penned on, in the past years (here and here). The abridged version goes as follows: we have a full-on instrumental composer with tens of victorious SOUND VOLTEX contest entries and a daring singer with former working ties with Touhou Project doujin circle Yuuhei Satellite and its sub-label Shoujo Fractal (少女フラクタル). Despite both being really accomplished at the time with their own label, they never managed to land any original song on foreign music game pastures... that is, until they hit it big with the TnT Faith Creation contest!
Rasen Shuukai Kidou (lit. 'Spiral Orbit') was BlackY and Risa Yuzuki's joint submission for the first of the Nijiiro Version era's music contests, partially vindicating the dark-nicknamed composers of three rejected pieces that were submitted for the former CreoFUGA contests. SueP of the Taiko Team judges boards commends the duo for delivering a kind of song that would "evoke mental images while playing that are sure to be enjoyed over and over again", thanks to the off-rhythms implementation to a pop song at heart. Even a food analogy for the judge was in order to better convey the feel: the more you chew it, the more you feel ts taste!
With the above-linked Emma SotW article, we've touched upon how the couple has managed to win together general music gaming contests hereafter (and not just on SDVX, mind you!), but this one statement has proven to be HIGHLY relevant into the near-ending 2023, with another song of theirs being selected for the latest Arcaea music contest (Ego Eimi) and coming out with the Konami Arcade Championship's Grand Winner track Λkasha for SOUND VOLTEX. A literal reveal from today, even!
The way Rasen Shuukai Kidou has been charted for Taiko means sees the KFMO set's base scroll value to be played at half its intended BPM value and twice its scrolling speed, making way to 1/16 charting not that dissimilar to other Namco Originals of the same range like Ryuu to Kokuen no Himegimi. On the Ura Oni side, however, this console-allergic tune's beats-per-minute is fully played out with no artificial scrolling changes of sorts, in the likes of Tabaneito! Removing its "heavy training clothing" a-la Dragon Ball Z is not the only gimmick to factor in for a fully-starred modern chart, as 1/12 and even more aggressive 1/32 cluster fragments play the lion's share.
