Taiko PSP's IDs, take 15
By a closer look to October 2012's packs, another new song emerges from the future releases! It's the J-Pop song Shine (ID: shine), by Ieiri Leo. For the record, said song comes from the latest arcade's first upgrades.
Hanaoto Urahyoushi and Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi first videos
And now that the download pack is out, let's see some videos! Above is Hanaoto Urahyoushi. It's an average speed 9* with 700 notes (quite a long song) and some simple streams. Namco said earlier that a Vocaloid is the voice of this song, and it is now confirmed to be Kagamine Rin, the female voice of the yellow-haired twin Vocaloids.
And this is Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi. It's easier than Hanaoto at 8* Oni with 624 notes, and somewhat faster-paced. A very lovely song with very lovely note patterns!

Taiko 0: How to use Game Modifiers, Taiko Sounds
Like the old method of turning on gameplay modifiers and Taiko sounds in the arcade, Taiko 0 also handles both on the difficulty select screen, except the method of doing so is much easier and not hidden behind a series of drum hits that normal people would not know about.

Taiko 14 mobile Dojo service ends
With Taiko 0 being out for more than a year you'd expect the old mobile Taiko Dojo for the previous versions to be discontinued, right? But no, Taiko 14's service went strong, all the up to just last week. The Mobile Dojo for Taiko 14 officially ceased its record-keeping services from October 11, 2012 onwards with the existing records kept for viewing.
The video above is a player reminiscing about the old times with Taiko 14...it was after all, one of the best Taiko arcade versions in the first ten years on Taiko history.

No, like literally.
Busted in the middle of the video, his head wasn't actually doing any work at all. And all that giggling. Man, all that giggling.

Classic Showcase: Beethoven Songs
One of the most influential figures in the Classic and Romantic eras of Western Art music, German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven (baptized 17 December 1770 – 26 March 1827) left his mark on European history with his revolutionary works. With over 30 piano sonatas, 9 symphonies, 5 concerts for piano and many other chamber music compositions and string quartets, the pianist's has an inner passion of music like no other, and he performed and composed music until the very end, when he died of liver disease.
What is most remarkable about Beethoven is the fact that during his career he became completely deaf on both ears, and yet still continued to push on! One of his most well-known works, the 'Ode to Joy' (or his 9th symphony) was produced while he was completely deaf. Though he could still compose, having a hearing loss obviously made performing in public extremely difficult for him and he gave that up soon after the Ode to Joy was performed. No one knows exactly what caused Beethoven to go deaf.
This was one of the very first song series in the Classic genre of Taiko no Tatsujin. Even back during the old days of Taiko when classic compositions have only begun emerging in this rhythm game series, Beethoven's works being used first goes to show how powerful his name is in the world of music.

Song of the Week! 6 October 2012
As we saw a couple of months ago, Taiko no Tatsujin meets the hard-boiled world of Sega's Yakuza 5 this December through a drumming minigame using an authentic Taiko 0 cabinet. Two of the three songs made available for it (From the New World and Nijiiro Yumeiro Taikoiro) were already reviewed in this blog, but what about the third one?

Behind the Drums: Akitaka Tohyama @ AJURIKA
Akitaka Tohyama (遠山明孝) is a key player in Bandai Namco's music team responsible for the music of many prominent videogame franchises the company has made. His passion for music is undeniable; Tohyama-san began learning the piano at a very young age of 4, and started dabbling in computer synthesized music at 14. An avid lover of video game music in particular, he sent several demo tracks (his own compositions) to several video game companies when he was in the 4th year of college, after which Namco hired him. Tohyama-san has been working there ever since.

Namco Taiko Blog (October 4 2012): Popular Song Pack 8 and another arcade update
This week's update is rather light, focusing on the release of Popular Song Pack 8 for Taiko no Tatsujin Plus for iOS. As usual, there are five songs in the pack, costing 600 yen to download. The five songs are as below:
1. Manatsu no Sounds good! (真夏のSounds good!)
2. Misenai Namida wa, Kitto Itsu Ka (ミセナイナミダハ、きっといつか)
3. Shine
4. We Go! (ウィーゴー!)
5. Let's go! Smile Precure (Let’s go!スマイルプリキュア!)
All five are the latest licensed songs from Taiko 0 and are now playable on your iOS device. The pack has been up for 6 days prior to this blog posting, so get downloading!
The other update is regarding Taiko 0.5, which will have another firmware update, this time to Game Version 3.05. The update will take place on October 10th, 2012 but it won't be a major update, this is for preparing November and December's Donchare rewards in advance.

pikaby asks: Song repeats
"Angel Dream? Again? Seriously?"
Avid players of Taiko no Tatsujin and people who buy every console version Taiko will feel this frustration and even more so recently. Songs that you loved and played to death before on a previous version is going to also be in the very next Taiko game you buy. How does that make you feel?
A few repeats are justified; the Angel Dream example above was repeated from the first Wii Taiko in the second so Ura difficulty could be added, but then it happened again in Taiko Wii: Ketteiban. And if you own a 3DS or a PSP be prepared to see even more of that song. Far from the small songlists of yesteryear, the growing size of the number of songs in a single console Taiko basically forces Namco to have at least a few repeat songs, but are they justified? Especially if they're back-to-back repeats?
Personally I'm fine with repeats being on different consoles as it ensures people who don't have one console will be able to play their favorite songs on another, but repeats within Taiko games of the same console have never been heard of until PSP and Wii. Again, this can be attributed to the huge size of their song libraries. For the back-to-back repeat songs I actually don't play them. Yep, I don't play them, unless I really feel like it. Why play them when I can do so on the version just prior to it, unless there are some new features being added? Two to three games of cooldown is fine, if they're good songs, but isn't it a bit overkill to milk the most popular songs literally everywhere just because we voted for it in popularity polls?
How do you feel about songs that are repeatedly included in console Taiko?
