Sonority Scouts - Back From The Grave, and Back Into It Again

Yesterday was quite the day for neighbouring rhythm gaming, seeing how it was observed both the rise and the fall of some choice titles, both sharing bonds with Taiko in some fashion or another.

Let the emotional rebound between happiness and sadness begin!

Readers of our past Sonority Scouts might remember the termination notice of Touhou Danmaku Kagura, the fan-made Touhou Project mobile gacha game that was notable for being the first rhythm game to feature some of the original songs from the source material series, among other things. As of yesterday, the game is dead as soon as the final livestream was aired... together with the reveal of a revival title in the works, slated for a release next year!

Going by the title of Touhou Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Lost, the original mobile sensation will get a Steam port with a new playing layout, an expanded story scenario from the original and even English voice language support! What's more is that Unknown X, the doujin-collective developing team, has also opened a crowdfunding campaign to see offline-playable ports of Phantasia Lost on mobile devices, specifically smartphones and Switch! Billing the project with the insane amount of 1.5 million Yen will also allow trhe richest pledlers to step in with their arrange suggestion to become playable in the game, no less.

On the somber side of the spectrum, we have some dreary news about the status of a decade-running rhythm gaming series from Taito, arguably the longest-standing and most prolific external contributor to Taiko gaming in Game Music matters over the years.

Also during a music game-focused livestream run yesterday, it was revealed that the next month's updates for the arcade branch of Groove Coaster will also be its last ones it's going to receive, as the ongoing cabinets' technological specs/capabilities are nearing their respective limits and can't be pushed further for the 9-years-standing models. Online functionalities will be retained, but beyond this November's final navigator/avatar campaign, two popular BMS sensations and one last dream collab Original boss track, the journey of the 2013 machine is coming to a close.

Considering how both the Steam and smartphone iterations of the series have also been put on a hold from future content due to differing technological limitations, only the vtuber-powered Groove Coaster Waiwai Party on the Switch is carrying forward the lucky butterfly-leitmotif series, as of now...
