??? That's right- Vocaloids and their music have seized the Song of the Week corner once more! We're having quite the modern-times popularity meteor, too...
Originally uploaded on August 2nd, 2020 on both Nicovideo and YouTube, KING is the 2nd song from Vocaloid producer Kanaria (Twitter), whose online musical maiden voyage was already performed a few months earlier in the same year with an Hatsune Miku song, the second voice bank of the artist's song-making choosing. For this digital hit tackling the sickening side of abusive relationships, the turn of a season was more than enough for the song to gather the Hall of Fame status in October 2020 and a little short from a full year since release, the track proudly sits at the Hall of Legend with more than 31 million views on YouTube alone. Coupled with it being elected as Billboard JAPAN's Top User Generated Song for 2021's first half and it simply -has- to be stated: these old pop songs are no match for the KING!
After it scrubbed all the popularity floors in Japan, this fresh hit has made its way in several music games before stepping into Taiko gaming, most notably with the mobile-oriented Project Sekai with also features a male-sung cover of it (link). Under the "arcade usual suspects" mantle, on the other hand, we find Sega with maimai and Taito with Groove Coaster, as one of its many console-first DLC debutants.
Playing KING's Oni on Taiko is akin to playing an old-school Idolm@ster song chart, where its pure 1/16 cluster-based charts and the generous play length alone are enough for an 8-star rating by stamina attrition.
