Namco Taiko Blog (26 October 2016) - Autumn Discounts for Taiko Wii U Games

Continuing the trend from this summer's V Version digital sale, today's surprise blog entry is about yet another digital discount campaign, this time for Nintendo home console grounds (even seeing as it looks like the Wii U's successor is right behind the corner...).

From today until November 9th (9:59 AM, Japan time), it'll be possible to purchase the digital version of Taiko no Tatsujin Tokumori at the discounted price of 3000 Yen (tax excluded), while the later-released Atsumete Tomodachi Daisakusen will have its price dropped to 4000 Yen in the period of time that goes from November 9th to 23th (same hour deadlines).

As an added bonus, every song DLC that is still available to obtain to this day as paid DLC will have their price cut to 100 Yen during both promo periods! This deal is also applied to the Senpuu no Mai's 2-song combo for the third Wii U title, thus it being treated as a single purchase.

Behind the Drums: Marimo Institute

The notecharter known as Marimo Institute (まりも研究所) started making charts during the Murasaki Version days, while also being in charge of the song release schedule for the arcade front since then. Once known simply by the name of Fumenja X (譜面ジャーX), her nick was changed during the White Version days in favor of the namesake marine moss balls species (also shown in the picture above!).

Her main motto for charting is "easy to read, hard to be hit", as Marimo Institute herself loves contradictory concepts to play along for bigger means. As a big fan of STG (abbreviation of 'Shooting', or sometimes 'Swear To God') games where one misstep can easily lead to defeat, she's been mostly involved into the creation of notecharts for Touhou Project song arrangements, be it by herself or with the support of other sentai charters.

Behind the Drums: Arihotto

One of the Taiko Team's rookie notecharters, Arihotto (アリーホット) joined the Taiko Team during the creation of Sorairo Version, with the first mentions of his efforts as a notecharter appearing in the second Taiko game for 3DS, as the staff roll of Don to Katsu no Jikuu Daibouken itself reports. His nickname was picked because of both Arihotto's passion for spicy food and the existence of a secret deposit of chili peppers and other spicy foods inside the canteen of the Future Lab, Bandai Namco's former headquarters. He's also one of the persons in charge for the livestream sessions' BGM selections, so now you know who's the one starting every broadcast with Sports Digesdon!

With his earliest works dated to the month of April 2015, Arihotto's approach to notechart creation is the feel of any player approaching a Taiko game, as starting to play ignites the passionate will of performing well; as such, most of his charts rely on muscle skills on stamina management. His work portfolio includes songs for almost every genre, with heavy emphasis on Game Music-related collaboration content.

Song of the Week! 22 October 2016

For today's feature, the tone is slightly different than usual.

As a personal rule for this corner, I seldom let my choices for this corner to be affected by personal tastes, but upon having fully experienced the series from which the couple of songs of today's feature are spawned, I won't delay this pet-peeve of mine once again to the "another couple of months later" status and put this up today. I'll try not to make of this a personal habit in the future...

Twitter Snippets (October 19 2016): What the Heck is a Stabofe!?

"[...] Speaking of, what is a Stabofe? Stabofestabofestabofestabofestabofestabo......"

In a cryptic tweet from sound designer and composer relations person Yoshinori Kawamoto, we might have the faintest clue of what the hecka Stabofe is. Here's how we put it: If we had known about this we would have put it as "Stivalfe". (BUt no we are not changing it, that would make even less sense to other people)

Sonority Scouts - 3rd Tenkaichi Otogesai, Newcomers Round

The big event that made people cheer in joy two years ago is back, with the third iteration featuring a quartet of songs that -for the time being- are exclusive to their proprietary franchises.

As this very edition of the Otogesai had brought some hope of seeing the post-1st year transplants to come in other franchises in the future, let's see the other AOU-exclusive picks for the 2016 edition's first phase songs!

Taiko Time 6th Anniversary: Event Results and Talkback

Thanks for everyone who submitted to the anniversary events! Here are the results now! The quiz answers and a Hall of Fame sort of gallery can also be found after the jump.

...the thing is though, it appears that we maybe haven't specified too well that some of you might have played different notecharts in the tournament than intended. No matter though all in the good fun for the anniversary, and we just listed everyone's results with adjusted maximums this time. We'll make sure we make the rules clearer the next time we hold something like this.

All in all though, thanks once again for the continued support, and here's to more years of both Taiko no Tatsujin and the blog!

Taiko Plus/STH - Chain Chronicle 2nd Collab, the Portable Outings

As this week's Red Version update went live, the Android version of the game can effectively catch up with all the Chain Chronicle content, as both the previously-launched Normal Battle and Final Battle medleys have been added to the Gakkyoku Tori Houdai mode, together with the shared debut of newcomer Chain Chronicle Total War Medley and the three songs' respective Ura Oni modes.

On top of that, the short version of the Chain Chronicle Normal Battle Medley will become available to play once again on both app versions for free, until the campaign's end (November 14th).

Song of the Week! 15 October 2016

While the latest Red Version update has brought up a quintet of brand-new public songs, the license expiration death knell has required four times the amount of song removals to be satisfied this time around, including -once again- songs that don't have any other playable form in any other Taiko title.

Today's feature is in memory of two of these forever-lost tracks...

Sonority Scouts - Hakurei Shrine's Autumn Troopers / 2016 Edition

Right before our weekly song showcase, here comes from us another sneak peak at what will come from rhythm gaming in general with tomorrow's Autumn Reitasai. We've already seen that Taiko gaming will have... well... quite the un-munificient additions for this event, but what about other music gaming series?

Twitter Snippets (12-14 October 2016) - Random Composer Facts, Round 2

Following up from last week's appearances on Twitter, this week we've seen another couple of revelations that have been worthy of Taiko Team retweeting, and this time both of them are for commissioned future song work reveals for Taiko gaming! The first one above comes from Go Takuro (郷拓郎), one of the two members of the independent unit detune.; his latest contribution as of now is the composition of Tanqun Democracy song Natsumono☆.

Our 2nd reveal comes from the mother-and-daughter couple of Honoka and Kikuo Inoue, both of which have been hired for the creation of a future Namco Original song. While we've heard Honoka quite a lot in the genre since White Version's inception, this will be the first Namco Original starring Kikuo!

Yesterday, we forgot to talk about the latest Taiko Team blog entry, which focuses on the returning Autumn Reitasai's Taiko-related content for this year.

While we already know the more meatier content thanks to the past livestream run like the limited blue Reimu Petit Chara shown above (see the rest here!), after the jump we'll be focusing of the minor new bits that have been announced with this blog entry.

Red ver. Update (V4.05/Asia V2.02) New Songs Preview

Players of other big-name arcade rhythm games may be familiar of makers releasing previews of new songs on YouTube. Taiko no Tatsujin has never done this except for embedding snippets with Windows Media Player in the old Namco Taiko Blog format, (in)famous for not supporting some newer advanced browsers and smartphone viewers.

That changes today, as these videos on the official Bandai Namco YouTube channel gives us the longed preview snippets of Gasshou Stabofe! and more of DokuLO CANdy♡, after that abrupt cut from that livestream.

Meanwhile for more song trivia: Gasshou Stabofe! is in fact another entry to the School Matters Series on the choir festival. The song is once again composed by long-time contributor Masako Oogami and vocaled by the Danchinomiya sisters, the combination previously seen in Yureru Pleats Jikkouiin. Active high-school female duo Tama☆tai provides their talent to make up the namesake choir.
See you tomorrow and the day after for the First Videos!

Taiko no Tatsujin 3DS3 Story Mode Data: Multiplayer

**Incomplete as of now. Do tell us if you have more information!**

Song of the Week! 8 October 2016

Another week, another round of song requests! Chatbox user Yusri Khairi has a couple of Game Music-related song requests for us that cross the Limited-Play boundaries.

Unfortunately, though, video/notechart footage for one of the requested songs so far isn't available at all for the hardest difficulty setting of one of the two requests, so I'm forced for now to glance over one of the two in exchange for something else, also from the same genre...

Twitter Snippets (6 October 2016) - Random Composer Facts

To round up the Taiko-related updates for today, here are a couple of tweets about song composers that the Taiko Team felt compelled to re-tweet!

The first one is from the Twitter profile of Yura Hatuki, whose most recent Taiko no Tatsujin work is the 3DS3 DLC debut track Ryuu to Kokuen no Himegimi, in which she is both the lyricist and one of the singers. With this small tweet, it's revealed that recurrent Production GIW composer Hisui (翡翠) is the other singer in his first vocal job for the series!

For the second tweet, however, we're taking a glance at future song-making events, as freelance composer/singer unmo has made a photo of herself after finishing a recording session at Namco's studios in Tokyo. We haven't heard of this artist since Jikuu Chou Jikuu 1-Ka, the final song addition to Sorairo Version, which begs the question of when will be hear something more about this song, after such a huge time gap in Taiko lore!

Taiko Plus/STH: Touhou Invasion Now Has Song Pack Roots (+ GTH Extras)

After the monthly distribution of Gakkyoku Tori Houdai songs from the big Japanese musical phenomenon that is the Touhou Project Arrange bandwagon, now Apple Taiko + users are able to grab all the currently-released songs in either two separate song packs -the Touhou Project Arrange Packs 1 and 2- or as a cheaper 9-song deal with the Touhou Project Arrange Pack Set.

Both the individual packs and the pack set will have the iOS debut of the Touhou collaboration unit song Senshaku Zesshou no Fantasia, which is also added today to the Gakkyoku Tori Houdai service for both the iOS and Android versions of the app.

To sweeten the deal, now Touhou-related unlockables will be available in both versions to win at the Lottery anytime. For a little bit of Taiko x Touhou magic for your device of choice, feel free to take a shot at the new wallpaper rewards!

Namco Taiko Blog (6 October 2016) - Livestream Recap and More on Red Ver. (V4.05)

Daifuku is back for a double dose of weekly blog entries! We can quite confidently glance over the first one's full details here, however, as it's just an official recap of what happened during September 30th's livestream (also see our feature!).

It's still an enlightening read to have on the original source material, however, as there are the HQ snaps of all the major slideshow screens that have been shown for the run (including that delicious Engrish misspelling mistake), comprehensive of the Twitter icon and smartphone wallparer rewards for everyone to enjoy and bring the magic of Red Version everywhere you go.

First Video: Ryuu to Kokuen no Himegimi

Ryuu to Kokuen no Himegimi (竜と黒炎の姫君) (4/6/7/8; 569 notes on Oni)

It's already past Midnight in Japan, which means that we're already getting FV footage of the latest drop/Yura Hatsuki song for Taiko gaming, now featuring both female and male vocals! The Oni notechart can be easily compared to the likes of Yuugen no Ran, in which an upbeat tempo is used to offer many combinations of 1/16 under a generally slow-feeling tempo (sans the scrolling speed-ups)

And OH YEAH, there's more...

Taiko no Tatsujin x Chain Chronicle Special Site Open

The special site for the second collaboration between Taiko no Tatsujin and Chain Chronicle is open! While Don-chan is off being available to Chain Chronicle guilds and total war participants from October 6~26, he also samples enough of the mode's music for a playable tune on AC0 Red ver. and iOS/Android Plus/STH, coming at an undetermined date.

New Songs: Red ver. and Plus/STH

Drumroll Me Up When September Ends (30/09/16)

How is that the Taiko Team after-livestream Twitter snapshots like the one above look so hectic? What grueling events have made the Taiko girls and Etou feel so tired?!? The answers to these questions (and more) lie in our usual broadcast recap, for the pleasure of our English-speaking audience.

[RANDOM] - Crushing White/Red Version's Tatsujin Dojo Ranking

Thanks to a heads-up by chatbox user Faiz Danyal, we've been made aware of a skilled Taiko player's recorded performance on the Dojo Ranking's hardest trial yet, scoring an impressive Tatsujin Gold clear (=all Great hits, no misses) in the dreadful Souryuu no Ran/≠MM/Yuugen no Ran trial. Congratulations!

Song of the Week! 1 October 2016

This week's feature comes from a suggestion in the chatbox, highlighting a pretty big kid's anime which we actually haven't talked about much until now.

Across Japan: Plus One and Minus Eleven: Early October Song List Changes

Consider it the equivalency exchange for having so many Same day as Japan additions or whatever, but the October 13 AC0 Red ver. removals, dubbed the "Red Purge" by us, will also happen in the greater Asian regions. Given not all of the 20 removals in Japan have got out to Asia in the first place, so we only have 11 songs be removed. Yay...? The list is after the jump.

Well, at least Shining 65 hits the greater Asian arcades on schedule today (October 1) too, as the after-DonChare general unlocking.
