Namco Taiko Blog 2 - April 11th Stream recap and GMT's Phase 2

Today's second blog entry is about the continuation of the Game Music Triangle collaboration, as well as a recap of the last Taiko Team live streaming session. Until we finish our coverage of the stream, here's the abridged version that the Taiko Team has listed today on their blog.

Aside from the third Don-chan arcade costume contest, the title parts poll for the second Special Title Gacha on Momoiro's Rewards Shop and a friendly reminder of the two imminent events which will feature free-to-play Taiko Momoiro cabinets with exclusive content (the Niconico Super Converence 3 on April 26-27 and the Hakurei Shrine Festival of May 11th), the last stream mainly focused on the continuation of the Touhou Project collaboration, which will begin from this year's Hakurei Shrine Festival celebration.

The Momoiro arcades built for the event will include only the Touhou songs featured so far, with the addition of three brand new tunes:

  • Nekuro Fantasy ~ Arr.Demetori (ネクロファンタジア ~ Arr.Demetori)
  • Kero⑨destiny (ケロ⑨destiny)
  • Tsuki ni Murakumo (Arranged: Iceon) (月に叢雲華に風 (Arranged: Iceon))

On top of that, all the Touhou songs will have some of the Touhou universe's characters as custom dancers!

Both the songs and the dancers will be added to the public Momoiro arcades sometime in the future, but every Banapassport player who plays the Hakurei Shrine Festival's Taiko machines will unlock the Hakurei Reimu (博麗霊夢) outfit, modeled after the Touhou games' main playable character.

Once again, we apologize for the lack of a timely coverage of the stream, but we'll try to publish it in the next few days. Until that, here is some new information about the GMT collab!

That's right: even if the first batch of collaboration songs was released just today, the Taiko Team wanted to make us aware about the event's imminent future. After featuring three song remixes from iconic Taito, Sega and Namco games by their 'parent' composers from the same software house, the same remixes will be... remixed a second time with the other remixes, giving birth to another triplet of new songs:

  • Ridge de Ridge de GO!GO!GO! -GMT mashup- (リッジでリッジで GO!GO!GO! -GMT mashup-)
  • Densha de Densha de OPA!OPA!OPA! -GMT mashup- (電車で電車で OPA!OPA!OPA! -GMT mashup-)
  • Opa! Opa! RACER -GMT mashup- (オパ!オパ!RACER -GMT mashup-)

This 'GMT mashup' song cycle features the pattern of having one of the collaboration songs's composers make a song mashup within the two collaboration songs which are from different software houses. In this way, Sega's composer Hiro will make a mashup song with the GMT remixes from Taito (Densha de Densha de GO!GO!GO!GC!) and Namco (RIDGE RACER STEPS) games, Taiko no Tatsujin personality Yuji Masubuchi will merge the Taito and Sega (Fantasy Zone OPA-OPA! ) GMT remix songs and ZUNTATA member COSIO will take the aforementioned Namco and Sega GMT remix songs in order to create something new. Sounds complex, isn't it?

The three songs will be available on public Taiko Momoiro, maimai GreeN and Groove Coaster (Arcade) simultaneously on May 8th, but the Niconico Super Conference 3 will feature custom versions of the three arcade with the Phase 2 songs!

The fun of this collab is extended for Banapassport players, as special titles are awarded to players who try out the three songs! The title 'GAME MUSIC TRIANGLER' will be unlocked by playing the three Phase 1 GMT songs from today until the end of the month, while the 'GMT MASTER' title can be earned by playing the Phase 2 songs between May 8-21.

As a side-note from myself (Lokamp), I want to make you aware that while two of the three Game Music Triangle Phase 1 songs will be featured in one of our Song Series pages soon, the Phase 2 songs won't be included in any of the series pages, in order not to create confusion between the two Song Series pages involved (Ridge Racer and Taito).

Put your worries to rest though- this doesn't mean that I'm totally ignoring those! You may see some of these lurking around the Song of the Week feature in the future...
