Coming from a publication which we still don't know of, is a list of Japan's most profitable arcade games in 2013. Though the industry is dwindling even there (Namco Bandai plans to close several of its arcades by March this year to downsize costs), the big winner last year is quite interesting.
That's right: Bandai Namco's arcade division gobbled up the highest two places in the arcade market of 2013, and leading the crowd is Taiko no Tatsujin itself! In 12 months, Taiko's adventure between three different major firmware builds (Katsu-Don, Sorairo and Momoiro) managed to set a considerable gap between it and the latest installments of the Project Diva and Wangan games (the latter of which is also an NBGI arcade!). Below is the complete translated list:
1. Taiko no Tatsujin
2. Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4
3. Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade
4. Cyber Diver
5. beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro
6. maimai GreeN
7. GITADORA
8. Reflec Beat
9. The★BishiBashi
10. jubeat saucer
11. maimai (the first model)
12. Gaia Attack 4
13. pop'n music sunny park
14. Mario Kart Arcade GP DX
15. SOUND VOLTEX II -infinite infection-
Speaking of Sega arcades again, maimai GreeN is going to be updated next week on Wednesday, under the name of maimai GreeN PLUS. Why say that here?
After having Saitama 2000 in another rhythm game franchise, three Idolm@ster songs are going to be ported to Sega's washing machine: GO MY WAY!!, The world is all one!! and THE IDOLM@STER 2nd-mix, two of which are some of the oldest Game Music songs in Taiko games. Will we see Maimai songs on Taiko next? Expect some video footage sometime soon!
