It's been quite a long time since Taiko Team's last Twitter spoiler, isn't it? After the Taiko havoc of this week with both arcade and console receiving new awesome entries and songs, a brand new Namco Original song pack is going to be released for the third group of players on their smartphones. This pack, called 'Sugoude Pack' (lit. Super Skills Pack) will feature DON'T CUT, The Carnivorous Carnival, Tenyou no Mai, Famires Wars and Kita Saitama 2000 (boy, playing this on an iOS is going to be interesting). Credits to crystalsuicune for the find!

Also, here's a drawing from the Taiko Team to celebrate Chogouka-Ban's release, from the same Twitter account:

Because of the organization of the update post and also our own time testing the game itself, we've decided to dedicate one post to the new charts of Taiko Wii 5 for easy reference! Come see some of the new charts that are introduced in the game, with a brief explanation of each one. Proper descriptions will be made when these songs are put into series or Song of the Week.

Purple Rose Fusion first video

It's here! The final Rose series song! Purple Rose Fusion is, exactly as its name implies, a fusion of the music of Red Rose and Blue Rose, with an entirely new notechart to go with it. 10* Oni with 876 combo and no Ura mode.

It starts off fairly easy with a rejigged version of the instrumental Blue Rose, then moves on to Red Rose, then the middle chorus sounds a lot like Red Rose's vocals interweaving with Blue Rose's music. This part is also annoying with 2 and 4 note clusters in the middle of regular ones, making it a slower version of Ao no Senritsu Ura.

"....slow? Who's calling me slow? I'll show you!"

The ending is Blue Rose's music as well, but sped up to an incredibly high BPM (which is still being worked out) and this part is probably what gives this chart the 10*.

A kingdom of voice thieves and deadly sins! Taiko 3DS Boss Battles

Spoiler warning ahead.

The story mode of Taiko no Tatsujin 3DS is exactly as described on the box; it is about a dragon and seven orbs. Don-chan's quest takes place in a medieval world, where an evil clown named Maou has stolen the voice of princess Soprano, the peaceful ruler of the kingdom, and split it into seven orbs. In order to restore the princess' voice, he has to collect the seven parts of Soprano's voice from each of Maou's henchmen, whose names are a subtle recall to Christianity's seven deadly sins.

The battle mechanics are similar to past entries where enemies are defeated by lowering their life gauge to 0 by performing well in the song involved; however Taiko 3DS' main twist is Don-chan's partner Raruko, a little green dragon who is the princess' guardian. Raruko can harness the power of the seven orbs to make Don-chan's fighting a little easier.

Ura Muzukashii on Taiko 0

Hare Hare Yukai has always had a 2P chart. This 2P chart was relegated to be exclusive to Ura mode after it became available, and the 2P chart for Muzukashii disappeared. But then, check this out! The same command on Taiko 0 to toggle Ura on also flips the Muzukashii chart over, revealing a Ura for that difficulty!

Rotter Tarmination did not get this treatment, which is regrettable. This also means that Namco is fully capable of putting in full difficulty sets for arcade Ura mode, but are just not doing it for god knows why.

Nice aren't they? They're made by Eggbeatr8 from Nintendo 5-Star, out of socks! He's quite a recent Taiko player too, and you can talk to him over at the N5S forum if you want.

IdolM@ster minigame in Taiko Wii 5

On the same day as the official blog post yesterday, the same author (alias 'inamasu' or '17マス') went out of his way to post another blog entry on the IdolM@ster page regarding Taiko Wii 5! And it's not the same as the one on the Taiko Blog.

Namco Taiko Blog (8 November 2012)- 3 weeks to Taiko Wii 5!

We are exactly 21 days from the release of Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Chogouka-ban! (does Namco pick Thursdays for launch days on purpose just so they have something to fill the official blog with?) Today's entry being about the game, is a simple interview with the game's producer, Tomoki Matsumoto (松本 智貴).

Random: Rainbow Taiko

Look at all the colors of the notes! Well, this is just an old arcade Taiko with a half-broken CRT screen. I'm sure a lot of players will have seen this at least once, especially if you're in Malaysia. Try to figure out whether they're don or kat before they reach the left part of the screen.

Taiko no Tatsujin Mcdonalds Happy Meal toys (2012)

This is cool. Someone actually made videos of the Happy Meal toys that are being given out at McDonalds in Japan right now. Although at first glance they seem to be a slideshow of pictures, they're more than just that; keep watching!

Below is the Don-chan card holder.

And this below is the card holder together with two other toys, the Denden and the square Bachi o Sensei that makes noises.

Lastly, here's the PV for the toys, showing kids playing with the toys as if they were using them as instruments to play Taiko no Tatsujin!

Oh, and as an extra note: there's not one password, but since three toys were released, there are three passwords for Taiko 3DS, and with them, three new Taiko sounds! Who knows, maybe we'll see another set of three when the other toys come out!

The passwords will be published on our blog as soon as possible.

Taiko 0.5: First video of junction and other changes

Well that was fast. Two days after the new set of Don Challenge goals came up, players have already unlocked junction, the new Namco Original song (naturally Hello! Halloween from last month is now open to all players). It's a 9* Oni (difficulty set 4/5/6/9) with jazzy vibes similar to Sports Digestdon and very complex rhythm. Namco weren't kidding about its difficulty! 604 notes in total.

Other changes made on November 2 with the new firmware update:
  • Burger costume made available in conjunction with Happy Meal promotion
  • New titles added, pertaining to the Tamagotchi songs and the unlocking of the three songs below
  • dance storm and Lightning Passion, the character theme songs for Fuuga and Mirai (Taiko Wii 4) are unlockable. Both their regular Onis have been downed to 7*, though their Ura Onis remain at 9*.
  • For dance storm, full combo Rotter Tarmination using the P1 drum, for Lightning Passion, full combo Samba Alegria on the 2P drum
  • Kaze no Fantasy is also unlockable, and downed from 9* Oni to 8*
  • To unlock it, full combo Angel Dream while wearing the 'Hero' costume

Namco Taiko Blog (2 November 2012)- McDonalds collab detailed

We saw in the official blog post last week that from today onwards, Taiko no Tatsujin and McDonalds will be collaborating again by giving out toys through Happy Meals. But that's not the half of it; there's loads more things in this collaboration this time!

Namco Taiko Blog (1 November 2012)- CreoFUGA interviews part 3

The third lot of CreoFUGA user-created songs were made downloadable on Taiko PSP DX from October 25th, 2012 onwards and Namco interviewed the 5th and 6th winners today!

The two people here today are Harunaba, the creator of Hanaoto Urahyoushi, and Ryuwitty, who made Kaze no Kuni no Ryu to Kishi. Both creators feel extremely happy and proud that their creations can be played by everyone on Taiko no Tatsujin.

Harunaba's song...Hanaoto is a Japanese-style song, composed with Taiko no Tatsujin in mind and tries to evoke the beauty of old Japan. Ryuwitty has an 'ethnic, exotic' image in mind when he made his song, and as mentioned before, during the contest the title of the song was completely different (昔むかし、遠き国の王様は) and he wanted lyrics for it. Later he deleted the lyrics.

Both composers found syncing the music for use in a rhythm game to be quite difficult. Getting the rhythm right is definitely a hard thing to do!

Harunaba listens to lots of music, but two bands in particular (Spitz, a J-Pop group and Meshuggah, a Swedish death metal group) stand out. Ryuwitty is a fan of classical music, especially Ravel and Debussy. You can follow both on Twitter, where they talk about daily life, food and music. The last paragraph is their message to Taiko players, to have lots of fun playing their songs.

There was another contest for composing GUMI songs on CreoFUGA, and both of these two have also won that contest, making for a double-sweep! Epic stuff! It's an even greater achievement when you consider than only four finalists were picked from there, as compared to eight here.

Now, for the last two winners! Hope we get to see their songs soon!
