Song of the Week! 19 April 2025

In lieu of the soon-to-come (likely via announcement in the next Summer livestream) yearly renewal of the ongoing line's Ranking Dojo main courses (up to 10-Dan, at least), here's an entry from a former iteration's upper echelon.

2023 sure was the year of the Seiga-Kaku-avatar-donning Morimori Atsushi in Taiko no Tatsujin, with the release of one of his most known (co-)creations for BMS contests (link) which eventually joined the same year's 10-Dan Ranking Dojo trial with a later-released Ura Oni chart. Little did we know how he was actually batting two-for-two Ranking Dojo releases in the same year, netting the final slot of the Choujin course with his very first original song for the series!

Unfortunately, we got around the plate the same amount (and kind) of trivia we could supply you about a few choice Namco Originals of the past (such as this one): just the song author's 'approved' abbreviation for the track, as novered with this tweet. In Japanese Kanji notation, CUT is read as Kiru (切る) and FUTURE as Mirai (未来), so the sum of the two would give out the word 'Kirimi' (切り身)... as in fillets. In the off-chance you hear a bachi-donning Donder willing to go for fillets, now you know it isn't necessarily for a material hunger for finely-sliced meat or fish dish of sorts!

One thing's for sure, though- no matter what you choose between the two 10* Oni flavors on this song, the 236 commpnplace BPM and the the jumpscare giant Kat note scrolling skits will usrely make of this fillet one hard bit to swallow for the untrained ones! Moreso while going for the Ura Oni, its mono-Don and Don-Kat-alternating streams at incremental scrolling speed and general cluster hybrid barrage antics that are nothing short of a superhuman to properly tackle in a flawless way! Despite the milder small-Kat-big-Don mid portion and a slightly-lower notecount than fellow Ranking Dojo '23 Ura newcomer Nosferatu, CUT! into the FUTURE Ura still makes it to be the Choujin-featured chart with the highest note density ratio to date, averaging at a quite-impressive 9.73 hits/second.
