Song of the Week! 4 May 2024

Looking back at this April's features, I realized we didn't adehere to our usual "one Ura song feature per month" unwritten clause, soooo... how about one today and the other by the month's end?

Here we have another of the ongoing main Ranking Dojo's upper-echelon gatekeepers, slotted in with an Ura-debuting slot for one of the final trials just like we've already seen for the same year with GORI x GORI x SAFARI, months earlier (link). It also marks the return of quite the duo, roughly 3 years after their latest original joint effort for Taiko shores!

Signed under the Seifuumegitsu ('Cool Breeze and Bright Moon') alias is one couple of artists we've come to know and love across the years: composer Drop and lyricist/singer Yura Hatsuki (葉月ゆら), the likes of which we've already seen with one of the final debuts for the PS4 Taiko game's catalogue: the Namco Original Senkou Valkyria. This symphonic piece of music is named after the popularly-spread general term for 'vampire' in Romanian culture, first introduced by British author and speaker Emily Gerary for a late-XIX-century written article about Transylvanian superstitions and popularized by Bram Stoker years later with the popular gothic novel Dracula.

Many a parallel can be drawn between charting for the couple's Taiko-debut Sacred Ruin and Nosferatu's regular Oni charting in both 1/16 and 1/12 departments, but the Nijiiro Year-4 Meijin course Ura showstopper fits in an extra 500ish notes with some really nasty 1/24 clusters inbetween, not to mention the semi-constant scrolling speed modifier to chime back to times like White Rose Insanity (Ura)... on a more energy-draining contender! Whatever Oni you choose for the song, don't let the '400 BPM peak' scare you- it's actually halved to roughly match the true 200 BPM median on key fragments of the song with non-single-note special markers- the most terrifying things to hit are still there, in plain sight...
