Song of the Week! 16 March 2024

Often times, writing on up-to-date happenings leads to be up and ready for sudden schedule changes, something that rings true even on hobbyistic-rooted contents that a videogames-centered blog would entail. Last week's Saturday feature was actually going to be an Hatsune Miku-themed one due to the recurring 'Miku Day' (3/9, based on a goroawase name reading) happening on a Saturday this year, but dire news from the day earlier have pushed for a more somber topic change instead.

Put your worries to rest, though- I'm not enduring music that doesn't... match my taste (to say the least) for nothing! The already-penned feature is not lost, but rather postponed to this week's slot instead. I mean, it's not like there's going to be another Saturday Miku Day anytime soon, right!?

One year before the advent in Taiko of #C.O.M.P.A.S.S.'s Alkali Rettousei and the flower-powered Venom, today's track was the first one in the official series from Vocaloid producer Kairiki Bear, garnering over 40 million views since its original MV uploads on August 30th, 2020 and garnering a slot in two of 2021's major general Vocaloid albums: EXIT TUNES PRESENTS Vocalodelight feat. Hatsune Miku and Magical Mirai 2021, named after the yearly concert line starring the song on that same year. This is not our first time talking about this artist on the blog (and quite in the non-canon fashion to boot, too!), but what has changed since then is Kairiki Bear's announced retirement as a Vocaloid music producer due to personal demotivation, shortly after the early-March '24 release of the Hatsune Miku song Meromeroid (メロメロイド), which was made for the ongoing IP collaboration between Hatsune Miku and the Pokemon franchise.

This Hall of Legend sensation is one of the more welcomed ones across modern music gaming, both on your usual game center corners (CHUNITHM, Ongeki, WACCA, DANCE aROUND) as well as mobile-prone franchises in the caliber of Muse Dash. Mobile-exclusive gaming, in fact, 1-up the competition with some original covers of Darling Dance, one for the ongoing Project Sekai co-performed by members of the MORE MORE JUMP unit and another for BanG Dream!, starring the ingame unit Hello, Happy World! (lead by an idol voiced by another Miku, mind you!)

Still an arcade-exclusive to this day, Darling Dance in Taiko fares as straightforward as you can get, when it comes to modern 8* Oni charting on pure 1/16s. The major hurdle, however, comes for the handswitch-weary kind of players, as different DKDKD-based combinations of clusters are here to test how much one can adapt their coordination on quick note successions!
