Song of the Week! 26 February 2022

Everything eventually must come to an end, including one song series project that was nurtured by Bandai Namco talents (and assorted associated) for a full straight year.

Here's the final stop of this journey!

The Taiko no Tatsujin 20th Anniversary's Taiko de Time Travel commemorative song project had started last year on February 21st with the song Todoroke! taiko no Tatsujin, ending the very next year on the very same day in order to preserve the " '2021' day spelt differently" joke from the first time. The people making the song are also returning contributors to the series-starter: BNSI's steμ as its composer/charter with the aid of SueP (すえP) in her 6th year of contribution to the Taiko no Tatsujin cause!

As penned by the same steμ in the final interview blog entry pertaining the Namco Original series, it was his intention to end the series in a way that would both go back to what had just happened while pointing one's sights (and the same song's title!) towards what's yet to come, in a "world-travel"-styled song that references each of the former Taiko de Time Travel tracks' leitmotifs under an uniformed composing key, with auditory winks to each appearing in the reverse order of their debut (from The Future of the Taiko Drm to Todoroke! Taiko no Tatsujin). It's also more to the point that there is more to Taiko gaming than just one of two "predominant trends"; from difficulties to musical notation approach and music genres, looking forward to the series' future is more and more uplifting for the composer every passing year, something he wishes to deliver as a message onto to this song's players by the peculiar way he "bridged the time gaps" between the spotlighted eras.

The Taiko series in of itself has changed well beyond the original project of, quoting the steμ blog entry interview again, a game that was designed as a lighter and looser experience in its earlier development stages 21 years ago, originally meant to be played "with both feet stuck in a stupid nori" and nothing more. As time went by, it became more than that with succeeding entries that made it resonate with the general public as many other things that would be even barely thought about back then that would ultimately pave the road for a broader undefined future to look forward to. Bandai Namco's Taiko no Tatsujin is party game, a series with stories to tell, people to meet, background stories to share and be shared, music trends to chase and even new ones by it to be either forged or popularized... in many respects, by playing it in any of its incarnations or just sharing memories of its past is also akin to time traveling, wouldn't you say?

Musical notation was the charting approach suited for the modes of GO ON ~Mirai e~ as yet another way to make things come full circle since the first Taiko de Time Travel entry. Unlike all other songs in the series, though, those Banapassport arcade players can be awardede with its 'Clear' custom title unlock by clearing it on any mode, rather than locking it on just Oni like many other clear unlocks before it!

As one final post-scriptum to today's entry, let it be know that a dedicated Song Series Showcase for the Taiko de Time Travel songs is in the works and that it should be coming live in a few days from now! It will have redirect links to both all the SotW/series corners with each of the songs but also to their respective staff/charter interviews that have been held on the Taiko no Tatsujin official blog during these past 12 months. See you there!
