Song of the Week! 11 July 2020

It's Ura Oni time already! Today's featured track is also the 6th song in Taiko history to receive 10-star ratings for both Oni charts, no less.

We have another of the fabled 'weekend warriors' tracks on this Saturday, only this time around it's not from the same release week! In fact, Hoshikuzu (lit. 'Stardust') Struck comes from the hay days of Green Version, the last arcade Taiko generation's last operating system. Tomoyuki 't+pazolite' Hamada (浜田知幸) from the HARDCORE TANO°C label is the creator of this quirky instrumental piece, which got an uncut version and a remix by Kaneko Chiharu (かねこちはる) for his 2019 album Refactoring Travel (リファクタリング・トラベル).

As usual for full-instrumental Namco Original tracks, we've got little to work with trivia content when its author doesn't leave any personal impressions about its work on the Internet (yet), but this leaves us with a golden opportunity to talk about one curious stunt pulled by the artist in question. More specifically, t+pazolite deciced to try bumping up his YouTube account's precence about three months ago by -no joke- uploading about 100 tracks of his making in one day, ranging from some of his earliest works to game-cut songs and even long versions/remixes that are included in his own albums. Hell, even the Uncut Version of Hoshikuzu Struck and its remix are in t+pazolite's channel, despite coming from a relatively-recent album release!

Hoshikuzu Struck is the last known Oni notechart job to date from Taiko Team notecharter Emukepi (えむけぴ), who opted for a speedy chart that juggles easy-to-read cluster formations of many signatures between scrolling speed alterations. It's still a 200+ BPM song at its core, though, so careless mistakes by stamina mis-management can still happen!

For a decisively less forgiving parade of hi-speed cluster brutality, look no further than Hoshikuzu Struck's Ura Oni mode!

One of two extra Oni modes that were added to arcade gaming with the Green Version Dojo Ranking mode's final main trials, its difficulty degree is a honest test to its challengers' stamina and reading skills, so much so that -unlike other Ura songs going for the opposite approach- it goes from a regular Oni with multiple BPM/scrolling changes to a plain, uniformed speed all throughout. It's just you and the 1000-story chart that tailor-fit follows the musical notation. Can ya dig it?
