Feature: 2018 - The Year in Hindsight

We've made it through another year, which for the Taiko franchise as a whole has meant quite a lot through a collection of different scenario-changing situation. For that reason, our yearly recap post for this year will be structured in a slightly different way from our former standard.

The ever-increasing number of periods of the year filled with (mostly) minor collaboration events, combined with something that has happened earlier in the year that has made us harder to display imagery from the official blog, has led us to switch to make our recap action more compact, covering three-months periods of time in a single section rather than having one for each month like usual. To make up for this feature-slimmering action, each trimester recap will be followed by Lokamp's personal selection of Taiko-related highlights, covering both the positive and negative extremes of his own preference.

It's time to take you back...

Song of the Week! 29 December 2018

Rounding off 2018's Song of the Week feature cycle, we have an user request that gathers around some of the most recurrent Namco Original artists for a single track!

Twitter Snippets (20 December 2018) - 241 Deep Artist Crediting

We've almost let this news tidbit slip by our radars for good, but here we are at last!

Shortly after the full reveal of the Vol.13-18 Donder Packs for Session de Dodon ga Don's DLC content, recurring Namco Original composer Hisui (翡翠) has stepped in to claim the creation patronage for 241 Deep Learning, the newcoming Namco Original for March 2019's DLC pack. Not only that, we also know that it's going to be yet another male/female duo song as well, with Hisui singing together with Kuriyama Kana (栗山叶) (Twitter).

..considering what we're going to talk about for 2018's last SotW feature, sharing this Hisui-related story with you now might be of the most perfect timing, too!

The latest God Collection addition by Tatsuya Shimizu checks in with a pure-1/16 Oni notechart, worth of the top-rating treatment due to the high note density and its eerie similarities with former Oni trials in the likes of Ao no Senritsu, Red Rose Evangel and the arcade Ryougen no Mai. Expect the God Collection page to be updated with more trivia soon enough!

While you wait for that, though, here's something that we've missed about this song from social media talks: as tweeted by Tatsh himself and the singer Yu Oda, Clotho will already be getting a longer version to boot, as it's the previously-unnamed track that is featured in GEMINI, one of Tatsh's latest Comiket albums for this year-end's incoming new edition of said fair. Below is the official crossfade video of said album (without Clotho), starring some other songs that have already made the rounds in different music game series.

[NS1] A Generous Helping of Seconds in January DLC

「ポップスパック Vol.2」1月10日~配信開始! 「達人チャレンジパック Vol.2」1月10日~配信開始!

Call it lackluster or otherwise especially when compared with its older brother, the DLC cycle for Taiko no Tatsujin Nintendo Switch Version is still going on. You can now consider yourself loyal when you waited long enough for a brand new Namco Original to finally debut on the January 10 DLC addition. (geeze how low has the bar gone)

The banner on the left shows the Pops Pack Vol. 2 (ポップスパック Vol.2, 400 yen+tax), the three songs of which has the common point of being performed by large-scale idol groups each with 40+ members. I don't know what appeal there is with them but this would be a handy pack to have if you are partial:

★2★3★5★7

And if the last Tatsujin Challenge Pack feels underwhelming to you, featuring only one ★10 notechart, the sequel Tatsujin Challenge Pack Vol. 2 (達人チャレンジパック Vol.2, 500 yen+tax) might feel more so because there are zero ★10... or just for now, because we have the a never-before-seen pick at ultimate:

Twitter Snippets (December 27 2018): Weekend Escapades for the Year-end

We are back with weekend additions on Taiko no Tatsujin Blue ver.! Tomorrow (December 28) you can find in the default song list this new addition to the God Collection featuring one of the three Fates/Moirai of Greek mythology:

Title
Clotho クロートー Tatsh feat. Yuu Oda NEW!
  Tatsh feat. 小田ユウ

Speaking of Greek, next Saturday (January 5) the default song list adds another Namco Original that has a Greek letter inside, featuring a well-known frequent contest-winning composer in KONAMI fields (but has been shy from winning in Namco contests).

Title
ARMAGEΔDON NEW!
