And the curtains fold back on the conclusion of the Taiko 10th anniversary celebrations. Namco's final gift for this year is revealed!
The silhouette is indeed Don-chan and a new character, and judging from it alone is enough to assume a new console Taiko game. The only question was which console?
Nintendo 3DS, the successor to everyone's favorite dual-screen handheld! The name is Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigi na Orb (The Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orb), set to be released on July 12th this year.
The links to information on the first nine surprises on the Donder Page have been replaced by a giant banner linking to the tenth, marking the end of the 10th Anniversary.
Namco have been very brief on details of Taiko 3DS, giving only the name and logo, with a barebones official site that shows nothing new, but others on the Net have picked up fast, with a partial songlist and a few screenshots, courtesy of this week's Weekly Famitsu issue. Bold songs are brand new entries!

A few classics, a few anniversary staples (Maru Maru Mori Mori and Polyrhythm are literally everywhere this year I swear), and some new songs. Nothing much to get overly excited about, but hopefully we get to see the Game Music and Namco Original genres soon, as well as the theme song! The songlist is larger than 50 songs, a little more substantial than the DS games. No information has been provided about downloadable songs yet, though the 3DS is fully capable of supporting that feature.
Now, screenshots!
The interface is definitely the new style based on Taiko 0, though we don't know at this point whether the scoring system and results will be the same. And as the title implies, a good Story Mode seems to be a handheld staple now, with DS2, 3 and PSP DX all having great side modes.
