JAEPO has started! While we're waiting for tomorrow's livestream about the new family of Taiko arcade gaming's debut, several attenders to the yearly fair, such as the ones we've retweeted on our blog's handle throughout the day, have shared several photos of the new game in action, profiling some of the new layouts in advance.
Here's what we've gathered so far about them, with links to a related tweet whenether possible:
- Seven different score rank grades are adopted; from lowest to greatest, we have Iki (粋; divided in White; Bronze and Silver); Miyabi (雅; divided in Gold; Pink and Purple) and the rainbow-colored Kiwami (極);
- Donder-Full Combo has its own celebratory message, alongside the already-revealed rainbow crown;
- The song selection screen layout has been changed for a vertical alignment, similar to Nintendo Switch/Drum 'n' Fun, with different fonts for words and the time limit as well as a new counter for the number of songs in a credit right under the time counter. No song folders on sight, the Anime genre has been recolored to purple while there's the addition of a Kids genre (and the Variety genre is no more);
- Star count for each mode is now noted with both stars and a digit value (again, like NSwitch);
- Newcomer Kids genre is made of the Children/Folk songs plus the themes of kids-oriented shows from both Anime and Variety genre;
- Under the Game Music genre are now relocated the following families of songs: #C.O.M.P.A.S.S. tracks, BMS tracks and Touhou Project arrangements. No songs from the currently-operating Green Version arcades seem to be removed from the March 2020 arcades;
