220-224.54The Taiko no Tatsujin ties with talents affiliated with the INSPION sound unit branch well beyond their playable arcade debuts of late 2017, stretching from a streak of consecutive '18 Weekend Warriors seats from talents among their ranks to having a few of its artists coming back across the years as original music composers (paging Daisuke Kurosawa, among those!). The name of one drummer, however, stands tall across each of the INSPION-delivered Saturday additions of 2018: Tamu 'Muratatom' Murata (むらたたむ).
Born on September 25th, 1992, this buddying talent from Yokohama started playing the drums in her 15ies since junior high, eventually joining the amateur band Grizzly On The Night (グリズリー・オン・ザ・プラネット) and started posting more videos of her performances on the YouTube channel she had opened in her school years (link). The digital fame garnered by the self-descrived ""powerful drumming from a cute appearance" led Tamu to be contacted by Ark Music to join the label's all-Kanto-girls band SORAMIMI in 2013, up until the act's indefinite hiatus on March 2017. The very next month, Tamu Murata has signed a partnership deal with INSPION, contributing to the company's works while still being able to maintain her drum-based online outlets, including the "Tamu's Encyclopedia" YT channel keeping track on her performing progress on that year. The tides of good fortune came back swinging for Tamu in the coming years, as she became an ongoing member of the neoformed, all-girls metal band NEMOPHILA in 2019 and got married in 2021 with Akira Yamaoka (山岡晃), a renowned composer/programming veteran at Konami's whose musical foothold was grasply firm even in the music gaming scenario (both of back then and up to these days!).
In her first years at INSPION's, Tamu Murata led her hand to a number of projects, from a DVD set for drumming practice -the now-discontinued 'Tamu Murata's Hyper-Drum Training!' (むらたたむのハイパードラム修行!)- to just general drum backing for the company's songs, including the flagship theme and the Yakiniku-based madness from the fabled "2017 Special Autumn Audition" we've also talked about, earlier this year. Following those two feats, however, was the release of a dual-A-side single in May 2018, bearing the names of the two songs before your Donder eyes: Super D&D ~Kanzen ni Lead Shite I-my-me~ (lit. 'Completely Lead, I-my-me') and D-zettai! SAMURAI In The Rain. The two tracks were a joint collaborative vocal effort with Australian musician and former drag-wrestler Richard 'Ladybeard' McGarry, with Maruo Asano (あさのまるお) and Daisuke Kurosawa (黒沢ダイスケ) involved for both tracks as their respective lyricist/composer and guitar lead. Tamu Murata uploaded extended studio-recording drum plays of both songs on her own YT channel (Super D&D; D-zettai), and if you wanna relieve the live energy of both her and Ladybeard on stage, she has also uploaded a live concert recording of D-zettai from mid-2018!
At the highest of star ranking for both songs lie radically-different approaches to conceptualize 10-star charting into existence: Super D&D does it so with merciless deatstreams bookending both ends of the play (even if handy drumroll markers mitigate the closure) and general 1/16 cluster pressure a-la Kurenai, while the latter takes the extra 40 BPM nothes on its side to drum it up with a few 1/24 spikes and double-scroll giant Kat note jumpscares, even if handswitching is a bit more lenient. Both top-dog Onis manage to break the 3-digit limit, too!
