thchao (Touhou -!!!Chaos Time!!!)We might go the jolly and gaudiant route about the news of Touhou-y things happening, but it's no secret that Bandai Namco for a number of years has been housing yearly new additions only around the Hakurei Shrine Autumn Reitaisai. In this past couple of years, however, the Touhou songs joining the Taiko grand family this way are not popular arrangements from either ancient or more contemporary times, but instead mashups between an already-playable arrangement and an iconic Namco Original. Last year we got the latest playable Saitama 2000 remix this way, but the actual kickstarter of this trend is a year older, with 2023's Autumn Reitaisai premiering a choice mashup between t+pazolite's !!!Chaos Time!!! and the iconic math-classy arrangement of a song that doesn't need ANY kind of introduction around here, at this point...
What we might go a little deeper into is the IOSYS talent paying respect to the works of the HARDCORE TANO*C composer and his doujin-circle-senpai ARM: the nicknamed Maron (まろん; X Account; YouTube). Born in Tokyo in early April 1993, we know from the IOSYS website's dedicated collaborator page that she joined the doujin circle in 2016, exactly 10 years after her first purchase of an IOSYS doujin album. Maron's works are mainly around song composition/arrangement and lyrics-penning, the bulk of which work -lately addressing original Vtuber songs- can also be reflected among Taiko circles with Shukusei! Loli-kami Requiem which became playable at game centers last year. A number of Maron songs also happen to be included in music games under different aliases, from beatmania IIDX (Lovely Howdy Cowboy!!; THE F∀UST) to their dancing music series (BONE BORN; BENJAMIN). In particular, this Touhou/Namco Original mashup uses the "Dr.MARON" alias born out of the composer's appreciation of her circle senior ARM, also appearing in other otoge series for wholly-original songs, like the just-mentioned BONE BORN and KYOREN ROMANCE, a collaboration/anniversary song of sorts for the ongoing Arcaea mobile game. Elsewhere in also music game-y stuff, she has also lent a hand for Taito's upcoming modern music game/Puzzle Bobble take for Nintendo Switch, writing the script for the scenarios in the upcoming QQQbeats!!!, the spiritual-sequel of sorts to the already-available Touhou Spell Bubble.
It's easy to just open the chart talk with "just jet used to the original !!!Chaos Time!!! scrolling gimmcks lmao", but... seriously, what else could I add?! Mashing up the two iconic pieces also mashes together the charting structure of both, leaving room for the craftiest of player to study their paper sheets before seeing the song in action, in order to get scared by familiar-looking, quick-scrolling single notes... including the mashup-exclusive giant final Kat note, scrolling at 9
