Song of the Week! 2 November 2024

One of the artists involved for today's spotlighted song might have a chance of having her voice heard among Donders once more, thanks to the ongoing General Public Voting phase 2 of this year's Taiko music recruitment contest! It's also the first time to join the tracklist by direct commission, no less.

The preliminary phase for the Taiko no Tatsujin arcade tournament of 2016 was ran in rather the unusual way: the never-heard-before songs for the player secection, in fact, were the result of the Taiko Team asking a handful of successful composers from the earliest CreoFUGA music contests to make music for this phase! This ultimately resulted in the creation of a trio of original songs: Harunaba's Ghost Mask, MOES's Princess of Donder and this here track, the only one of the three where both the involved artists -composer and singer- were certified CreoFUGA success stories.

The title of Shounin YokkQ mirrors in a punny way its lyrics body's message, with the focus being on an entitled queen and her desire for recognition (or 'Shounin Yoku' in Japanese). Both song and lyrics were made by Aisowarai/G Ishiki Kajou composer Kaneko Chiharu, whereas the vocal performance -spoken and sung- is from Haxchi, first heard in Taiko shores for something I'm still burying in the back of my mind to this day, with varying degrees of success Tsundere Cafe e Youkoso☆. It's for Haxchi, in fact, that today's feature topic was made, with her being one of the vocalists of the track So laggy! from the surviving General Public Voting phase 1. More than 3 weeks from today are left for arcade goers to cast their votes, so I'm taking the chance to remind our reading audience at a game center's reach to act for the voting in general before it's too late!

The track recording for this and the other WCS2016 Preliminary tunes was made by Kawamoto Yoshinori (川元義徳), aka Kawagen Kollagen from many a past livestream hosting and year-of-the-dragon-welcoming Namco Original fame. Charting its Taiko modes was Taiko Team's Yamaguchi (ヤマグチ), who coincidentally ended up mirroring the Max Combo value of this Oni Mode with the one of the aforementioned Ghost Mask! Besides the fast-flowing giant notes at triple the scrolling speed and the slightly-tempo-disruptive Kat note sequence at the end, this is a bona-fide 1/16 drumming challenge, just like we're used to across the first couple of arcade Taiko generations.
