We were somewhere around Summer on the edge of the season, when the drums began to take hold.

I remember saying something like: "I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should play..." Suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the screen was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the playing lane... and a voice was screaming: Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn Hunters?

...alright, I'm not gonna regale you with a full-on drug-based report on fuzzy journalism, but it's quite fitting for today's subject matter as the novel-turned-movie in question also happens to be the name of the 2008-founded electro/metalcore band responsible for the track at hand, employed for the latest anime transposition of a currently-running manga run...

Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫義博)'s Hunter × Hunter is set in a world where unrestricted world-trekking exploration and outlaws' huntdown are handed to a clique of licensed professionals called Hunters, graded from 1 to 3 stars by the Hunters Association after passing a grueling yearly examination. The series has for protagonist the young Gon Freecss, an orphaned child who -upon knowing that his father isn't dead but that he currently works as a Hunter- partakes in the yearly Hunter Examination run in the hopes of meeting him again. The series got animated transposition ever since its story-debuting year in 1998, with the Hunter × Hunter – Jump Super Anime Tour 98 short film by studio Pierrot releasing a mere 4 months after the manga's Weekly Shonen Jump debut (March '98). From 1999 to 2004, Nippon Animation took the mantle to make a 62-episodes animated series and a series of 30 OVAs at the 3rd millennium's start, but the Anime run the song Just Awake was made for was produced by animation studio Madhouse, counting 148 in total and spanning from 2011 to 2014.

The original Hunter × Hunter manga run is still ongoing from 1998, although many a shonen manga fan across the globe can easily address its long-running status due to the many artist-halt periods that have been occurring since 2006, taking longer and longer to release new chapters on Jump magazines and getting people online with funny mock names in the likes of "Hiatus × Hiatus". The creative/health-stalemate situation got so bad across the years that has lead manga writer Togashi to publicly reveal on November 2023 the existence of four discarded H×H story endings in Tv Asahi's Iwakura and Yoshizumi Show variety, stating how he wishes to come up with something more satisfying than endings A-C and reading the full 4th ending live on stage, stating it'll become the canon one in the unfortunate case the mangaka dies before finishing his story.

The audio playback distorsion doesn't lie- we got ourselves another original licensed song port at our hands! The full-on 1/16 charting approach and high number of notes might be good enough to compare it as a modern Guren no Yumiya-like Oni challenge, but that vexing 191 BPM base value is more than enough to keep players pounding at a more-focused pace, averaging on a 6.71 hits/second ratio for a perfect performance.

My heart was filled with joy. I felt like a monster reincarnation of Yosuga... a man on the move... and just sick enough to be totally confident.
