Song of the Week! 5 August 2023

With the latest of the last-minute-weekend Taiko Team announcements over Twxtter, a couple of Ranking Dojo Gaiden courses have just been added for every Banapassport owner to enjoy, offering "Ura" variants of the 2023 Main Courses' 9th and 10th Dan Trial.

Among the three songs featured for the latter "Ura Main Course" is one tune we've yet to talk about, one from a massive multimedia Bandai Namco project I finally got the excuse to talk about too, and in greater lengths at that!

The first of three tunes featured in the 'Gaiden! Nijiiro 2023 10th Dan (Ura)' (外伝!ニジイロ2023十段(裏)) course is a first for more than one ground, other than for it being our first SotW pick on songs from the DEN-ON-BU (
電音部) multimedia project from Bandai Namco... it was also made for the very first of the project's fictional units!

Originally announced during 2020's ASOBINOTES ONLINE FEST onn June 28th, this is the first major multimedia project to be pursued under Bandai Namco's music label ASOBINOTES, starring an ensemble of fictional girls from five differents schools in Tokyo what share their passion for electronic dance music in form of live concerts (with their voice actresses), live DJ sessions with many of the related guest composers and even DJ music battles between opposing school districts, with AI-controlled illustrations of the Denonbu girls on stage. Really, "Idolm@ster but with an EDM spin" is the quickest way to describe the attempted scope for it!

Shortly after the project's reveal in the aforementioned online event, a few livesteams from Bandai Namco further down the line would explain the project scope while also introducing its related characters and voice actresses. The wave started on July 3rd, 2020 with a livestream introducing the project and the first of its unit-branded members, the girls from the Akiba district's Sotokanda Literature High School: Reina Hidaka (日高零奈), Kazune Shinonome (東雲和音) and Futaba Kayano (茅野ふたば ), respectively voiced by Yuka Tsuji
(蔀 祐佳) Miho Amane (天音みほ) and Sena Horikoshi (堀越せな), already in Taiko Anime field for Anime/kids oriented tunes with Start Dash! and Ka! Ka! Ka! Kamizmode!.

On this introductory stream, the Sotokanda Literature High School's image songs for the three members were already unveiled but Hand Over -the first trio song for the act- was only released at first as an album bonus for October 28th's DEN-ON-BU -Sotokanda Bungei High School- "New Park" album of the same year, with a single release occurring in the following year. The composer for the song is the nicknamed KBSNK/KABOSNIKKI, one of two members of indie unit TEMPLIME with tempura (an art name, not the fried dish, mind you!), with the original craft being object of fan remixes down the line from none other than IOSYS's D.watt for doujin album purposes.

Hand Over was brought to Taiko pastures from 2021's early beginning, as one of four Denonbu tunes to get simultaneously added into Nijiiro arcades. Deemo collaboration enthusiasts will surely be quick to draw parallels between this song's Oni mode and the one for Sakuzyo's MagiCatz, as a base BPM is served with a really generous peppering of quick note couples is shared between the two!
