Today we've got quite the doozy of an announcement for mobile Donders, seeing how there's a new mobile title in the works! Going by the full-caps-friendly display of Taiko no Tatsujin RHYTHM CONNECT, this is going to be a follow-up to the currently-running Taiko Plus Shinkyoku Tori Houdai, in that it's a Taiko game loaded with hundreds of songs that are going to be available by different means than the base song list/DLC formula of console titles.
Since early May this year, it was known online that a trademark to the 'Rhythm Connect' name part was filed from Bandai Namco, but as there were not any elements directly tying it to the Taiko franchise since then, we opted to stay out of it... but now things are different as there's no more room for doubts- it IS something Taiko-related, so you bet your bachi drumsticks we're fully going to talk about it now!
As you can see from the header, the game's official website is already fully operative, with no set release date but a list of applicable Apple/Play Store countries already on display: Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Macao. Prior to launch, however, a number of countries will be able to enjoy the game in early-access fashion, with a partial song list and tentative interface/gameplay layouts; from the official announcement of today, in fact, the early-access app is already available in Taiwan, although suffering of severe songlist cuts in the licensed genres as of now.
Breaking new ground among the mobile-oriented Taiko fields, Rhythm Connect will actually become the first non-console (home/portable) Taiko title with a theme song to call its own! This is the eponymous RHYTHM CONNECT, brought to us by BNSI newcomer Yukiko Miyagi (宮城裕紀子) and vocalized by the trio of AKZ, Mia Sakurai (櫻井海亜) and Saki Yamashita (山北早紀), as part of an ensemble dubbed TRIANGLE. Such a unit name also happens to be the game's mission, with the app becoming a tri-pointer means to connect Taiko fans with music, other fellow fans and Taiko no Tatsujin as a whole.
The app will offer a more streamlined approach to browse for both genres and songs, with the most notable element being the introduction of album jacket art to identify tunes in greater lengths than just the titles alone. Said art will also be displayed ingame instead of the usual custom dancers in many a different approach, being a static image, a simple Live2D animation or even a MV playback for applicable songs, including the WADIVE Records debut song shown up here. Even more Namco Originals already have some degree of jacket art on display, so have fun browsing the website and scout for your favorite ones!
Social interactions in Taiko no Tatsujin will be snappier than ever, with planned LINE integration to all areas in which the game will be released (with Indonesia and Malaysia's pages being already active), allowing people not only to share their Taiko tracklist favorites but also to invite fellow LINE friends to play them! Of course it's just one of the sharable facets the game has to offer, with the usual Taiko drum avatar customization flairs and a few ingame perks for being a socialite Donder like ingame boosters and passes of sorts.
The player's progression will also be tracked down with both single-songs scoring and an overall Taiko rank counter to be boosted by playing, with date-gated events like the bingo card here on display and single-use boosters to exploit in order to rake in the gains in a faster pace.
As you could also see before, the game breaks free from the former iOS/Android titles on the control/display aspect, with Rhythm Connect being only playable in portrait mode. The rules of the game are the same, though- Don notes by touching the Taiko drum and Kat notes by touching anything else below the scrolling bar! As of now, no other control options are listed, as well as compatibility with any of the former official Taiko drum controllers that were made for the first iterations of the iOS app.

This game's initial reveal revels in assuring how it can be layed completely for free, via the use of time-limited (30 days from the screens in the website) song play tickets that can be acquired by watching in-app ADs. Let it be known, however, that timed AD-free access to all songs a-la Shinkyoku Tori Houdai/NS2 Taiko Music Pass is also available for sale, alongside other single-use ingame boosters like EXP/score multipliers and such.
Last but not least, the game is planned to launch with 600 songs, with more to come in the succeeding months via periodic updates. A tentative starting song list is already available at this link, mostly consisting of either Namco Originals or public domain/BanNam-inhouse-related content like Vocaloid contest winning songs and such.
