We carved for ourselves a Taiko-themed online corner that is named after a 2nd-gen, latter-end Namco Original, as well as our very first Song of the Week. Flashforward to now, more than 10 years later, we're faced with another song with a similar title... how could I say no to such an occasion to reference the SotW's humble beginnings?! I myself got so surprised that I even assumed this was the 2nd Taiko de Time Travel song in a month by the shock, imagine making a mistake like that... He-heh...

Donder Time is the latest song coming from ex-NAMCO SOUNDS musician Masako Ogami (大上昌子; Twitter), lastly heard of in the Taiko scene about 3 years ago with the Nintendo Switch Version launch song World Heritage Prelude. Wonder of all wonders, both Namco Originals have been made with the aid of one peculiar act from Osaka: Danchinomiya (団地ノ宮; Twitter)! This is a sister act consisting of lyricist Yako (弥子) and composer Kotoko (琴子), both lending their voice for their own creations as well as side projects like the collaboration unit Whites (ホワイトズ) with freelance artist Koji Ishikawa (石川浩司). Danchinomiya once had their works published on SoundCloud, but as the act's account was taken down and no act website (merchandise ones aside) are set up, only their old YouTube account from 2012 keeps publicly track of their endeavors.

Taiko gaming is used to feature the voice of Danchinomiya's Yako for the Namco Original contributions, but this time around is the sister Kotoko the one on the stage! From, yesterday's blog entry, according to composer Masako Ogami herself, Kotoko's nice voice was what the one factor to perfectly realize the completed vision of the song its creator was looking for, spinning life into the original cover version. Prior to Donder Time, Kotoko lent her voice (together with her sister Yako) only for the School Matters song Gasshou Stabofe.

Masako Ogami also happens to be Donder Time's Taiko charter as well, crafting an Oni mode that can be perfectly compared as the middle-road to the Oni and Ura Oni charts of another 80ies-sound-inspired track from the series' beginnings! Between the low BPM value, the heavy handswitch play for 8* standards and the compound clusters starring both 1/16 and 1/24 tempos, it really does feel a lot like Saturday Taiko Fever all over again, doesn't it?
