The second part of the May 2021 update to Nijiiro ver. features the return of Ranking Dojo and the season change for the Don Medal Shop. One day late on our part, here is our First Video look at the two newcomer.

Amber Light inherits jazz-infused vibes from predecessors Sports Digesdon and junction by the same hands, and bar-line avoidance principle similar to that in Comona (only 5 bar lines out of 63 has notes on it). While the music is of 126BPM, the in-game data have set double BPM with half scroll speed to accommodate the apparent 48th triples.

Full Combo Title (Oni): Intersecting Amber Lights (交差する琥珀色の光)

Swiftly used as the 3rd track for Tenth Dan (surprise, surprise), 4+1 no Sorezore no Mirai takes similar notes of the previous anniversary-celebrating Namco Original/Vocaloid song Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu -Gekijouban- by the same creator. The boosted 255-BPM speed makes the notechart formidable without having to tap into 24th notes or higher. Notecharter steμ also slipped a little quote of Taiko Roll at the beginning.

Full Combo Title (Kantan): Walking Forward, Tapping on the Hand (手を叩きながら歩いていこう)
Full Combo Title (Futsuu): Walking Forward, Singing the Songs (歌いながら歩いていこう)
Full Combo Title (Muzukashii): Walking Forward, Supporting Each Other (支え合いながら歩いていこう)
Full Combo Title (Oni): Walking Forward, Encouraging Each Other (励まし合いながら歩いていこう)

★ ★ ★

Outside of our newcomers, there are also Full Combo Titles for the other two non-debut shop tracks:
  • Don-chan Ondo: Let's Dance to the Don-chan Ondo (どんちゃん音頭で踊ろうよ)
  • Bokura no Mae ni Michi wa Aru: A Path to the Future Seized by Ourselves (自分でつかむ未来への道)

Song of the Week! 22 May 2021

The week before this one, a brand-new official game in the Touhou Project series was released, giving us the prime time occasion to talk about another of the Taiko-transplanted arrangements based on its overall score.

Who would have thought that a song about the last custom-dancer character from Touhou lore we have yet to talk about would have ended up being the bearer of what currently is the hardest playable Touhou arrange to date?!

Namco Taiko Blog (2021/05/20): Winning at the Even Starting Line: Nijiiro May 2021 Update

Another version update for the 4th-generation Taiko no Tatsujin arcade is going public... but why is there two release dates?

If you haven't been keeping up with our coverage for the last two months, let us remind you that the Nijiiro ver. firmware has been in service outside of Japan (only in select locales) since early April 2021. Subsequent version updates in Japan has also seen corresponding updates overseas usually within the week (minus some licensed picks). This is already the case for the previous April 21 update in Japan and the April 22 update in other locales, and will again be true for this update (2021/05/26 in Japan, 2021/05/27 overseas). It is the first time that the official Namco Taiko Blog acknowledged the overseas update schedule, so that's a welcoming start.

With that primer out of the way, let's get to the meat of the update after the jump!

First Video: Into the Unknown

Title
Into the Unknown Frozen 2

(230)

Following the success of the two tracks for the first Frozen movie comes the keynote song from the sequel, but the Taiko no Tatsujin inclusion took the jazzy Panic! At The Disco version instead of the sentimental movie version sung by Elsa. The majority of Oni notechart is filled with clusters and streams mixing 12th and 24th separations not unlike Maow and Sanpo (Ura), but the signature long notes of "into the unknown" are occupied by long large yellow drumrolls.

In minor news, Todoroke! Taiko no Tatsujin has got the "Taiko de Time Travel 20's" part added back to its subtitle like with Nijiiro ver.
