Namco Taiko Blog (5 July 2019) - AI Battle Performance's Latest Tips and Bug Fixes

The title says it all, so let's jump right into it!

In today's blog entry, our (still unnamed) No.11 intern from the Taiko Team talks about three features of Green Version's signature mode, the first of which involving the song fragmentation.

Each song in the mode is fragmented in either 3 or 5 segments in order to decree a winner between the player and AI-Don by just counting off who performed the best in the majority of sub-sections. You can tell in-game where one section ends into another one through a white demarcation band being displayed at the bottom!

Second on line is the Battle Rank advancement system, which ultimately defines the AI-Don's skill level. Aside from winning matches in general, one good method to advance faster in the rank ladder are bonus points, awarded under either of these conditions: a Battle Performance victory is achieved with a song for the first time (any difficulty) and/or a Battle Performance victory is achieved with a song whose difficulty setting is at least 1 level above the conditional difficulty level for the rank.

In order to find out the player's current conditional difficulty settings for each of the four modes, just browse the song selection menu- it's being displayed on the top-left corner!

Do bear in mind that both Oni and Ura Oni are classed under the Oni label.

The third and final bullet point is also about the Battle Rank system and due to its more expert-audience nature is being talked about by Taiko Team's leader, Etou. The regular AI-Don advancement system goes from Battle Ranks 1 to 10, but there's actually an upper limit to the system, which caps at the elusive "10+" rank and yields out the most elusive of title rewards and the most advanced digital Taiko opponent yet!

The unlock conditions for the 10+ BR, as a result, are way more strict than the usual norm; not only players will be forced to play top-difficulty Oni modes from a new special folder (coming soon to public Green Ver. arcades on July 8th), but they will be required to beat the AI-Don several times in a row! Will you stand to take on the challenge?

In the coming weeks, the AI Battle Performance mode will also receive some bug fixes in two different rounds. Also on July 8th, the Taiko Team is patching the problems that lead to the AI Battle Performance mode restarting at random and to the incorrect difficulty clear display per song on the Donder Hiroba page. Later in July, that weird scoring bug we've mentioned some days ago will also be patched!
