It looks like 2026 has room for a second inhouse arcade racer starring drumming crossover-y scenanigans! In yesterday's official blog post, it was revealed how the latest installment of the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series (6RR Plus) is having a Taiko-themed campaign, to go along with a parallel event on Japanese Nijiiro cabs running at the same time span: July 22nd to November 3rd.
For the Taiko no Tatsujin leg of the collaboration, a new permanent song will be added at the collaboration's start: the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6RR PLUS Medley Vol.1 (湾岸ミッドナイト マキシマムチューン 6RR PLUS メドレー Vol.1). For Banapassport users, there's also a special perk: by playing twice with an up-to-date WNMT in the collaboration period, the next Banapassport play on a Nijiiro cab with the same card will net the unlock of the collab-exclusive Wangan Maxi (湾岸マキシ) sound effect. There's also a collaboration page to check out the details on it (only available for the Taiko arcade website's JP-language version).
For the Wangan leg of the collaboration, on the other hand, there was a dedicated broadcast on YouTube, also from yesterday! The racing game's cross-title unlockable is acquired in a similar way to the Wangan Maxi drum sound: play Nijiiro version twice in the promo period with your Banapass, then play on Wangan Midnight once with the same card to nab a Taiko 25th Anniversary nameplate for yourself!
The Taiko-playable Wangan Midnight medley was also shown in part on Muzukashii mode with the Wangan Maxi tone in action, at around 16:20 in the video sourced at the bottom of this post.
During the collaboration's time period, Wangan Midnight is also hosting other Taiko-themed customization elements to be unlocked via ingame missions, timed competitions or just by playing. As you can see, most of these are more nameplates but that doesn't stop for the inclusion of a couple of choice speedometers!
