watakw (Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro)One of Donderful Festival's subscription-based debuts, Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro (lit. 'My Cutest Point') is the second single release from the 2022-formed, 7-idols act FRUITS ZIPPER, as well as their first certified Platinum-seller release. Produced by Misa Kimura (木村ミサ), this was the first musical act associated to ASOBIMUSIC's KAWAII LAB. label and revealed just 7 days shy of the label's public reveal, with a name thought to evoke both colorfulness and energetic performances. Seven also happen to be the number of members in FRUITS ZIPPER, each associated with a color: 'Red' Tsukiashi Amane, 'Orange' Chinzei Suzuka, 'Mint-green' Yui Sakurai, 'Purple' Nakagawa Ruka, 'Sky-blue' Manaka Mana, 'Baby-pink' Karen Matsumoto and 'Yellow' Hayase Noel.
Composed by Yamamoto Sho (ヤマモトショウ) and released on April 29th in 2022, just 5 days shy of the band's first live performance, Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro managed to rise to fame as one of the viral-dance sensations on Tiktok, with national music chart peaks bounding between both Top-20 (14th on Billboard) and single-digit (4th on Oricon). One noteable feat for Donders everywhere, however, was one of FRUITS ZIPPER's own members managing to ace their own song, on national television no less! Last July, Ruka Nakagawa was invited on TBS's variety show THE Kamiwaza Challenge (THE神業チャレンジ), where she was challenged to clear Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro's Muzukashii mode on a Nijiiro cab... while blindfolded! As you might tell from this here tweet, not only the fan-nicknamed 'Rukapi' managed to clear it- she did so with a Full Combo!
Right from the get-go, this non-cover Pops tune has one quirky bit that was lost to time for Oni/Ura Oni songs on console games' music selection menus: different audio preview points when highlighted, changing from the console front to the ongoing Nijiiro release. On Donderful/Rhythm Festival, the preview starts just before the corresponding Go-Go Time-enhanced chorus starts, but the arcade porting of the tune as the audio preview being set a little earlier than that! The Oni talk is right about what you would expect on a small-cluster-based treat with few generous resting portions: especially for drumming rookies, the Go-Go Time will prove itself a test of hand-eye coordination of reading/performing the chart and energy management, with groups-of-4 stanzas not exactly being replicated all the same way.
