Song of the Week! 31 December 2023

Time for the last time this year I'm late for our weekly-scheduled appointment... largely because it also happens that today is the last day of the year, too!

Today's feature, at long last, makes me able to shed some lights about an aspect we somehow failed to mention beforehand about StudioGIW, one of the Taiko no Tatsujin franchise's most prolific commissioned studios for original works to date. That thing being... how supportive of each other's party are the two companies! As usual, however, here's a looksie on the people behind the track beforehand.

Titled after the Japanese icy treat that already lent its name to a Taiko no Tatsujin album of yore, "Everybody's Kakig
ōri"stars a newcoming GiW-affiliated indie artist as its composer and vocalist: the nicknamed Bonjour Suzuki (Twxtter; YouTube; official website), an artist who's fond of the gothic lolita apparel for live performances and that already had an handful of works featured in Japanese media, including the Anime series Yurikuma Arashi, Gypsy Boys and No Game No Life. The guitarist, however, is one Yuichiro Tsukagoshi (塚越雄一朗), one of two members of the NanosizeMir unit with vocalist Runa Mizutani (水谷瑠奈), holding onto the act name as a means to bring something unique of their own to the world (the 'Mir' in the name, from the Japanese 'Mirai') despite being a very small, 'nanosize'd act.

Much like most of the modern Taiko-adopted original songs, Minna no Kakigoori has also been featured as a bonus track for one of StudioGiW's own self-released soundtrack albums for their own videogames, with this case in particular for the one of the PC/smartphone tactical game AVARIS3, which was released in late October of this near-concluded year. In fact, each of the GiW-powered Namco Originals debuting in 2023 on the ongoing Donderful/Rhythm Festival -from Little White Witch to Jinki Souran- are featured as bonus tracks of the AVARIS3 OST, be it with the regular physical album release or the digital OST purchase that can be performed as a DLC to the base game on Steam. Both versions also hold a special exclusive perk in form of alternate-vocalist versions for both Little White Witch and Minna no Kakigoori, both performed by Hatsune Miku and dubbed the "Digital Voice Ver." (~デジタルボイスVer.~).

No spicy scrolling changes for the ever-prolific "Oni Nam-Combo" family's latest member, compensating such direction with a more dense note/playtime ratio to spare. The Kat-based sequence and the final four stanzas are the ones to mind the most about, for sure!
