Seeing as the first release of the ongoing Deemo collab return is a song whose name is shared with a boss in one of the soon-to-be-remade 3DS titles, why don't further expand on such parallels here with a track whose name is also shared with one choice song from the mobile piano sensation? Granted (of course), the song in our showcase has nothing to do with that Deemo song (or any other track in music gaming bearing the same name, for that matter), but often times it's the thought that counts, isn't it?!
Marigold is the first of two songs in Taiko (thus far) coming from the Hyogo-prefecture-based Aimyion (あいみょん), born March 6th, 1995 in Nishinomiya. Influenced by a family-shared love for music in many forms (most particularly, her grandmother's singer aspirations and her father's work as a sound engineer), she started composing and playing songs since her middle school years, using an acoustinc guitar that was guifted to her by her English teacher. Unbeknownst to the artist, one friend of hers sent an application for an audition for which she made into the final rounds; combined with Aimyon's first video covers posted on YouTube's popularity, she was then contacted by the representatived of what would then become her first contracted music label (Lastrum Music Entertainment). Nowadays, this 25-years-old meteor has already managed to have three studio albums, three EPs and eleven single releases and is currently affiliated to the Warner sub-label unBORDE.
Marigold is Aimion's 6th single, realized in just 3-and-a-half months since the completion of the previous work -Mangetsu no Yorunara (満月の夜なら)- and was released in her second studio album Momentary Sixth Sense (瞬間的シックスセンス) the following year, on February 13th, 2019. As described by the artist herself, this is a love song with a "love pattern of men and women superimposed on the summer landscape", describing the scenario in such a way to leave each individual listener to their personal interpretation of the described love story's tone, just like a marigold flower whose color shading changes according to the viewing perspective to said flower. This was Aimyon's first music video being shot overseas (in Shanghai), and in the span of not even two years it managed to pile over 200 million views on official video sharing places on the Internet, as well as peaking 6th at its release year's Oricon charts. Not to mention this track's popularity which led to its creator to perform live in many a national television broadcast, including the NHK's New Year Special of end-2018! In music gaming, this song also managed to hop around elsewhere as well, with bemani's jubeat series sharing the torch with Taiko gaming (link).
Ever since its arcade debut, Marigold's Taiko cover managed to touch every active release between the console and arcade grounds, soon to be extending into the second 3DS game's Nintendo Switch rerelease as well. It's a slow ballad with a constant rhythm and very approachable consecutive 1/16 charting, which makes it prime material for those practicing with the randomizer game modifiers (Kimagure/Detarame) in a relatively safe enviroment.
