It's been quite a while since the Taiko no Tatsujin series was advertised throughout the Nintendo Direct video lineup, and once again it was for a region-exclusive news broadcast at that. That changes today, with both the Japanese and overseas branch joining their hands together in unveiling a brand new Taiko no Tatsujin game release for the Nintendo Switch!
Perhaps, the 'brand new' label is best suited for the not-Asian audience, as you're about to read...
Currently set for a generic Winter 2020 release window, two of the Nintendo 3DS Taiko no Tatsujin games -Don to Katsu no Jikuu Daibouken and Dokodon! Mystery Adventure- are going to be re-released worldwide in one single title: Taiko no Tatsujin Dokodon RPG Pack! (太鼓の達人 ドコどんRPGパック!), which will be known overseas as Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack. Like Drum 'n' Fun before it, the games will get a brand new localization job as well!
As usual for us, we're spotlighting the Japanese reveal clip in the embed below, but let it be known that a subbed (and longer!) cut of the same trailer is available at Bandai Namco (USA)'s YouTube channel.
What you see is what we'll get: an enhanced port of the two base Nintendo 3DS titles for Nintendo's current flagship console with some changes from the respective original versions. First and foremost, both titles will have a trio of licensed tracks that weren't included in the 3DS releases, making for a total of 6 extra tracks in addition to the respective song lists.

Other preliminary informations about the game have been gathered online, between the title's official website and Bandai Namco's online Twitter pages:
- The game will be available both digitally and physically in Japan, with most non-Asian countries having it as a digital-only game instead (from Bandai Namco USA; Bandai Namco EU)
- All songs from both games' DLC-less track list are confirmed to return, with the only exception of Senbonzakura, Funa Funa Funassyi, Karl no Uta: Autumn Poolside Version and Katte Rock from 3DS2 (from the official website's dedicated song list page); statements about any other eventual removal from the Western release are currently pending.
- All control schemes from Drum 'n' Fun are coming back: Furifuri (Joy-cons), Buttons (Joy-cons/Switch Gamepad) and Touchscreen (Switch undocked mode).
- Both games won't feature any multiplayer-related play mode with this re-release.
The website for this "Taiko HD Collection" also has an additional page which is currently closed off. Look forward to further informations about this game in the coming weeks!
