Song of the Week! 25 May 2019

The Spring season is always a time of anticipation for Idolmaster fans, as often times it's the season of choice for the official surveys aimed to crown the best idol of different sub-series to boot.

This ending week has seen the end results of the Cinderella Girls branch's 8th yearly election season, and it just so happens that this year's winning idol also has one of her image songs made playable in Taiko gaming!

One of the many arcade-exclusive songs from the Cinderella Girls sub-series, Mitsuboshi (lit. 'Three Stars') is the first image song for the Passion-attribute idol Mio Honda (本田未央), one of the first CG mobile game's "tutorial idols" as well as the ultimate winner of the 8th Cinderella Girl election.

Voiced by Sayuri Hara (原紗友里) of the 81 Produce talent studio, she's one of the idols that is been featured in Taiko games' Cinderella Girls custom dancers set (the rightmost girl of the centerpiece idols), together with the other two members of the fictional New Generation unit of which she's a member. In the franchise's fan reception, Mio has been notorious for her habit of coming up with nicknames for the other idols in the game as well as for being the 'popularity underdog' of the trio, seeing as Mio's CD debut has happened much later than her other unit companions -Rin Shibuya and Uzuki Shimamura- and how both these gals managed to score a Cinterella Girl election victory many years earlier than Mio (Rin won the 2nd election, while Uzuki won the 5th one)!

Mitsuboshi made its album debut on January 23rd, 2013, with the 15th album in the CG series' MASTER collection (THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA MASTER 015 Honda Mio), with its first feature in one of the Idolm@ster series' games being in ONE FOR ALL as a DLC track. Two years later, the song got remixed for the 346Pro IDOL selection vol.2 album, where its performer changed fo the Cool-attribute idol Minami Nitta instead. As expectable, the song is also playable in Starlight Stage, the Cinderella Girls series' mobile rhythm game; a more unusual aspect to point out, however, is that Mitsuboshi's cut there is a bit shorter than the one used for Taiko gaming. See the different ending portions for yourself!

The Oni mode for Mio Honda's song in Taiko no Tatsujin fares on the easier side of the averagely-paced songs to boot, due to a blend of stamina-friendly gaps all throughout the piece and (mostly) short, mono-color clusters for a pure 1/16 notechart challenge.

Add three more stars (and 300 notes) to the song's Oni mode and presto, a new Ura star is born!

The only song among the New Generation idols' tracks to get ported in Taiko with the infamous extra difficulty, Mitsuboshi now plays out as a slower-paced variant to the original Kirame Kirari Oni treat, only with far more notes running at a slightly-lower base BPM value. Put your worries to rest, though, as no other note spacing than the usual 1/16 signature is found on this Ura Oni as well!
