The Performance Battle Mode (演奏バトルモード) is a side mode added to Taiko no Tatsujin Blue ver. arcades starting June 27 2018 with the G/V 3.07 update. The mode only supports one-player gameplay and requires a Banapassport (or equivalent) to access. Although being released later than the Japanese ver., the mode was later introduced on Asian ver. cabinets. The mode has since been removed as the next firmware Green ver. is introduced.

Synopsis
A fearsome dragon has invaded the kingdom and turning people into monsters. Amitie (アミティ), as the princess of the kingdom, takes it upon herself to defeat the dragon and to save her people. With the legendary sword in hand, she sets off on a journey around the world, and Don-chan is summoned into this world to help with his power of performance.
Battle Mechanics
Gameplay-wise, the Performance Battle Mode is just the same as your normal Performance Game: you pick any song that you like and play the notechart. However the usual scores and spirit gauge systems do not apply here. Instead, every successful hit convert to damage dealt to the enemy front. While both OK (可) and Good (良) hits can deal damage, Good hits have a small chance to be critical (signalled by larger font and a sound effect) for double damage. Hits on yellow drumrolls and balloon notes also deals damage (about 1/8 of a normal note). Large notes have no bonuses in this mode.
In normal stages, Don-chan and Amitie are faced with multiple monsters (in endless supply). When you have dealt enough damage to defeat one enemy, it counts +1 to your Defeated Number (たおした数). Each hit can defeat more than one enemy per hit if the damage dealt overflows. The enemies you defeat contributes like experience points to your Bond Level (絆レベル) with Amitie. The higher the Bond Level, the more damage you will deal per note and the more enemy you can defeat. The Bond Level is also the main metric for story progression.
In boss stages, Don-chan and Amitie have to defeat the giant monster guarding the barrier of the area. Instead of a Defeated Number counter is the boss' life gauge, which you have to drain to defeat it and destroy the barrier. If your performance was not enough to completely defeat the boss in one go, the dealt damage will be kept for subsequent challenges until you finally defeat it. Later bosses (starting from Maou and Scylla) also introduces sound and screen obstructions, like other console boss battles.
Your performance in the song is also measured by the Battle Power (バトルパワー), with respect to the current Bond Level and how well you play across the song. Battle Power does not correspond to the difficulty of the notechart or the total number of notes. The game will keep track of your personal best Battle Power.
Difficulty Fine-tuning
In addition to the usual notecharts, the Performance Battle Mode also lets you choose exclusive notecharts that lies between two adjacent difficulties.

Note that intermediate levels are not available if you activate Ura notechart(s). Also, not all songs will have all 13 levels, mostly when the gap between difficulties are too narrow. For example, Kokorobo does not have a Level 12 notechart, and Ridge Racer does not have Levels 10, 11 or 12 (because usual Muzukashii (9) and usual Oni (13) are exactly the same).
Deathblow
Every successful hit (both Good and OK, excluding drumrolls/balloons) also fills a Deathblow Gauge (必殺技ゲージ). Once the gauge is full, Amitie will deal a Deathblow (必殺技) which is equivalent to about 20× the damage of a normal note. The cumulative number of successful hits needed to activate this number of Deathblows is listed below. Note that there are currently no songs that can let you deal 8 Deathblows.

Starting from Stage 3, there is a chance for a Treasure Chest (宝箱) to drop from the enemy front after a Deathblow. Inside each chest you can find either 1, 3 or 5 Magic Stones (まほう石), which contributes to unlocking new Deathblows for you to use. The additional Deathblows are unlocked in order, and the Magic Stone totals will reset to zero after each unlock.

You can specify up to 3 Deathblows between which Amitie will randomly activate, or select Random (ランダム) to have all Deathblows randomly activated.
