Today, we're having quite the gem among modern 'Weekend Warriors'... one that has effectively received said title in Taiko twice! Find out why...

Touhou Project tracks are no stangers to series weekend debut, at first as Sunday Autumn Reitaisai exclusives and then public arcade debutants sometime later. For the first time, however, one song to be added in such a way has also received an extra Ura Oni delivery on a Saturday... this Saturday, in fact!

The year 2022's sole Taiko-debuting Touhou track comes from quite an ancient doujin release than first impressions might lead to, as this music foray dates back to the year 2015's 12th Reitaisai, with the 23rd main doujin album release by IOSYS falling under the title of GENSOKYO DEMPA EXPO -IOSYS Touhou Compilation vol.23-. In it, among other tracks, was a peppy tune made by the then-dubbed 'Lettuce Shichijou Group', an ensemble consisting of the lyricist eponymous leader, music arranger D.watt and four vocalists, two in-house affiliates -96 and Inasugi Natsu (岩杉夏)- as well as two guest singers in Koko (ココ) from Innocent Key and Alternative Ending's miko, for the joy of all ice fairy and Perfect Math Classes out there. Scarlet Police on Ghetto Patrol 24PM is actually the sequel to a contest-winning track for one of the early SOUND VOLTEX contest winners titled Taiyou wa Yamete! Bokura no Scarlet Keisatsu by the same composer/lyricist duo, eventually leading into the creation of a 'Scarlet Police' Touhou arrangement series with many of its later songs landing in SDVX as either exclusives/contest winners or cross-doujin ports, Ghetto Patrol 24PM very much included (link).

For as much of a story this is on a music game perspective, this was not the reason for the adoption of this quirky tune, melding the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil's Tomboyish Girl in Love and Septette for a Dead Princess once again in our series in playable states. We'll actually have to dig nearer to the timeline surface for that and well into 2022's beginning, as the Scarlet Police on Ghetto Patrol started trending in Japan due to a hashtag-fueled viral dance trend! With the battle cry of #"I'll Show Ya My Footwork!" (#あたいの足技みさらせやー) as the song starts, many people in Japan used the song's beginning to share their moves over Tiktok and other social media platforms, from national singers/dancers to big public figures in the Touhou doujin fandom... IOSYS members and ZUN himself included!

The fresh popularity resurgeance of the song drove the circle to expand upon in different ways, starting with the Scarlet Police Omnibus Spring Special Warning (スカーレット警察・総集編 春の特別警戒スペシャル) album release of the 19th Reitaisai to collect every Scarlet Police song releaseed to date with newly-made remixes to boot (Ghetto Patrol getting RoughSketch to remix it, of all people!). Winding down the rest of the year, many an external rhythm game series started to get aquainted with the Scarlet Police with the song getting ports in non-Konami pastures, with stops in the Groove Coaster and Sega's maimai/CHUNITHM series before getting in Taiko no Tatsujin. Hell, the song looped back to bemani fields too, through the DanceDanceRevolution series (link)!

The song is already taxing on 8-star Oni clearers whose handswitching skills are still on the rough, but that notion is easily cranked up to eleven with today's debuting Ura Oni todrown its challengers in a truly perilous sea of red and blue. The final portion of the song is where the two minor BPM shifts to occur and while there's nothing much to write home about the regular Oni's take, the Ura has its one and only branching point once that the final three shots are metaphorically fired by the song. Whether you'll land on the Normal route's 1/16 Don note stream or the Master route's 1/24 one with 20 more hits to count for entirely depends on the player's performance with big note accuracy: only those who will hit all 24 giant notes perfectly will gear up to Master route, in the same fashion as the final path-branching conditions in KAGEKIYO's 1-player Ura Oni!
