Namco Taiko Blog 2 (19 July 2012) - Taiko no Tatsujin, Game Version 5.00

Finally, the Taiko Team decided to make official the release date to Taiko no Tatsujin's massive upgrade kit (which is July 25th, next Wednesday), as well as revealing other little details.

But first, let's see a clear shot of how the upgraded arcade will look like!

Being more than a simple software update, the arcade previously codenamed 'Katsu-Don' has been revealed to be a whole new cabinet of the same Taiko 0 released last year, which is game version 5.00 (the previous update was 4.04). It features a fresh new exterior look, with the names of the new licensed songs on the side. But what's that little hole on top of the game screen?

That's right- it's a camera! As unofficially previewed on this forum months ago, the new Taiko 0 will include a little camera, which is used for some fun features before the main game begins. If you wait a little bit before you slot the coins for a play with the new Taiko version, this image will appear:

If you slot your coins at this point, the camera will capture a picture of the player(s), replacing their faces with random faces and featuring the title of a song for playing suggestions. Kind of like other arcade games with cameras then, this is done purely for the heck of it.

The example above shows Nanairo Button, Taiko 0's new Idolm@ster 2 song.

As for the extended songlist and the new gameplay features, this update will also fix some Gold/Silver crown glitches (crowns not showing in-game/Donder Hiroba and similar). Don Challenge, the new monthly feature for unlocking songs (click here for details) will begin on August 1st.
